Fat Albert - Early Season Archery
« on: November 24, 2012, 04:26:00 PM »
This is a belated post.  I got this buck back in September but it was right as I was in the process of moving to Georgia for work and had not had a chance to post anything about it.

This guy was completely nocturnal and I didnt hold out much hope for getting a chance at him.

He got the name Fat Albert because of he looked like a big fat Alberta whitetail.  never seen a whitetail this fat before.

I got in my stand about 5am.
The stand faces east and after about 45 minutes the area started to wake up with coming dawn.
I heard a deer walking from my right, coming left
It was Fat Albert in shooting light.  He seemed to read my mind as he stepped into view and held up at 32 yards facing me
I was clipped into the d loop, arrow nocked, sitting down, but very ready.
He stood for a long time before turning to leave.  I came to full draw and he heard or sensed my movement and froze.
The 175grn woodsman on an ACC Prohunter 300 didnt seem to slow down as it zipped through both lungs.
He didnt even run.  Just trotted 20 or so steps, coughed twice and tipped over.

I drug him about 20 yards to quarter him out and was sweating pretty hard for the effort.

Had to pack him out about a half mile.
Got him all in one load quartered.
I'm guessing the load to be pushing 180lbs
It was uncomfortable, but I was late for work.

If we were supposed to be vegetarian God would have made broccoli more fun to shoot!
"HOYT" why would you even consider shooting something else?

Late for work...who cares....nice buck.  32 yard shot on him...good job.  Great story!
That will make a nice shoulder mount...

thanks guys, I am actually doing a euro mount with artifical velvet on the antlers.
and yeah... late for work :) by about 5 hours.  My boss doesnt hunt but he was totally cool about it.  I was a short timer anyway.
now im in Georgia where you can shoot 12 deer a year, which will be nice because they are WAY smaller than this one!

Great buck!  Congrats
