Muley buck in Velvet Nov. 25th
« on: November 25, 2012, 04:01:50 PM »
Attached photo was taken today from a friends back porch in Colorado; note the buck on the right is still in velvet. Have you seen this before or know how common it is? I have never seen this in the past. Wonder if it is due to how warm things are out there.   :dunno:

I've heard that does with a very late estrous cycle one year will give birth to a fawn that will be a few months behind like that for the first 1.5 years but I never heard of a older buck like this... Not a cactus buck so.  :dunno:

Could be a stag.

I shot a 3-point with eyeguards 2 years ago. When I rolled it over it was a doe on the back end. Talking to farmers in the area they said that it had been running around for 3 years with the same rack, they never saw it without horns. It was a heavy horn, chocolate brown antlers. So this might be the same thing.

:yeah:
Went to book cliffs last nov 10 th to do a deer count. Saw 76 bucks in 4 hours and two were still in the velvet. I believe they have a low testosterone level due to an injury. Often times referred to as cactus bucks.  :twocents:

"HOYT" why would you even consider shooting something else?

I guess the cactus bucks I've seen weren't the same as everyone else.  The cactus bucks I used to see had really hairy antlers like that one nasty bull elk that was posted on here a while back.

If you look at the head it looks like a doe. I know a few guys that have killed them. I know of one really nice Oregon 5x5 that was killed this year that had doe plumbing.
