LOOKING FOR SOME NEW WATERPROOF LATE SEASON GEAR?  WHAT YOU GUYS THINK? I HAVE SOME NOW, BUT JUST WONT BREATH?

I love the windstopper fleece for the late season. It is not "waterproof" but it breathes so well, any moisture that gets through is gone in a few minutes. It's warm, and there will never be anything more quiet.

I just wore my new Kryptec out in the downpours over Thanksgiving down in the Coweeman. I havent seen rain and wind like that in a long time. I was bone dry after spending all day in that stuff. buddy wore his cabelas stuff (mt050) and was dry as well but his gear was really heavy after it got wet.

I'm a fan of anything gortex. My Sitka downpour stuff is good but probably not worth the money considering there is other brands out there that are less expensive and actually have pockets in the pants.

I'm sure some will get on and preach about their rivers west but it is absolutely the worst stuff imaginable if you will be doing any walking whatsoever. I'd rather wear rubber grundens.

Exactly, gets extremely heavy when wet and you might as well wear a full rubber suit as if you are moving as you will be soaked....

I like Helly Hansen Impertech, yes, it is a rubber garment, but it will keep you dry period in worst of condition and still is lighter than the normal fishing/crabbing type rain gear..  I am not a fan of Gortex stuff either as it will eventually fail...

In my opinion, the only rain gear that is truly waterPROOF, is the rubber gear. I have tried a lot of brands and there always seems to be moisture let in. (No not just condensation from sweat). However, I have not tried Kryptek, so maybe that will be my next try!

Ive been using rain suede and its been alright....if you wear jeans under it the water soaks up the pant legs and the same with a sweatshirt....also the coat isnt long enough to sit down with...it pulls up and your back gets get.....also its not that strong....i ripped a pair hiking through clear cuts the last 2 years..time for some new stuff also

i myself love rivers west, if done right you dont over heat, it took me some time to figure it out but now that i have i never leave home without it, what i cant stand is the price.....ouch......their price is crazy, is there good quit somewhat rain proof and warm at a desent price that a guy could buy for his kid?

I got my 9yr old set up with mad dog gear from cabelas for around $100-120 and for the hunting i do with him he hasnt complained about getting wet

What do you mean if you move you will get wet?  I was thinking of picking up some for Christmas and hasn't heard anything bad yet.  Can you gimme some more info?

I used the mad dog for years with good luck. I have some near new rivers west that is 5 years old.....if that answers the rivers west question.

I like RW. I think the reason some folks have issues with it is because you are over dressing for the conditions and hunting to fast. Its waterproof, quiet and warm.

it took me some time to figure it out, but now that i have i will always have it, you dont hikr in it, get to where your going and then change your clothes to a pair of loose flannel pajama bottoms and a light long sleeve tshirt, but wait until your cold before putting on the RW, and then still hunt or whatever, honestly if your over heating then your moving to fast or its just to warm out for the stuff

I have riverwest coat and cabelas dryplus insul. pants.  They both do exactly what ther were made too do.  The pants get heavy so I have suspenders on them.  The coat has vents and a zipper too cool off some.  I wear underwear and a tee shirt with these and am warm in 30degree weather.  It doesnt breath well at all and a guy will sweat to death if too active.  So I will take off coat when hiking.  Listen this is good stuff but not when you are too active.  It all depends what you want or expect.  If i am hiking I will wear something else.   I have got a little leakage thru zipper on pants and shoulders have been damp with coat in the worst of weather, but never cold.

Rivers West sucks for guys that have to hump up and dowm mountains!  I don't care if your naked underneath the stuff when your hiking, your gonna sweat and that sucks!  Its good stuff if you are gonna sit in a tree stand or just sit somewhere!  Sitka, Kryptek, etc are the way to go for the guys that hunt steep country and put miles on.

Read through every post about Rivers West, it is about 50% of the responses are "works as advertised" the 50% its no better then a hefty bag, does not breathe, waste of money.
I do not know about anyone else, but when I ask for opinions on how well a product "works as advertised" and half of the responses are to the negative, it's not because they have not "figured out" how to use the product.

My Rivers West gear are 5 years old, could they have got better since? Sure, would I take a chance wasting my money on their product when half of the people still say they do not work as advertised "again"?

Of course you can sweat in anything. Wearing rivers west is like working out in a garbage bag to lose weight before a boxing match. The stuff absolutely does not breath.

As I said earlier, I wear gortex. I have some Sitka downpour stuff that's ok but it's not perfect and for the price it could be a lot better. Anything gortex will not be completely waterproof, especially when sitting or kneeling. When I'm on the boat on a real rainy day nothing will keep me more dry than the rubber rain gear, I have both grundens and helly Hansen, probably prefer HH. On a normal day I will wear the grundens gortex similar stuff they now call Gage.

Ya know if its not cold I just wear soft quiet fleece and get wet.  I dont mind wet as long as its not cold.  Truth is any waterproof isnt going to breathe well.  Its not like there are little one way valves to let the sweat out!  RW is bad at it and so is rain gear/rubbers so whats the fuss about?  If rw wasnt so warm it would be better, unless it was really cold then it would suck huh?  I dont get it.
