Book suggestions

Anyone have any suggestions on a book that will help me understand  phesants and their behavior?

Just Google it. Plenty of resources in the internet. Unless you want the asthetics of a book or something to read on the pooper.

I would rather have a book. Plus I dont have a computer right now and getting info on this phone is a pain

I feel ya. I work in a library and know a lot of people would rather have physical books (including me). I recently looked up pheasant beahvior too. Most of the decent articles online were old magazine articles from various popular hunting and outdoor magazines. I know you said you don't have a computer but if you search Amazon there are a gazillion books on pheasant hunting. You could read the reviews or look at the ratings to get a consenus on which one is decent.

The one thing you need to know is,they'd rather run than fly,the thing that stops them from running is either blockers,snow or terrain such as a break in the hillside,they will not run downhill they are not put together for it as they are top heavy when running downhill gravity takes over and impedes the run which is why they bust into the sky if your dog pushes them to hard at the end of a long ridge that breaks sharply.Their hearing is good which is why you should never slam the truck door.Expect to find them alee in a strong wind,expect to find them near the top 50 yards of a rolling palouse hillside,expect to find them where the fencecorners meet especially if there is sufficient cover,expect to find them almost anywhere in nice crp.And don't ever count a creekbottom with russian olives and cattails out.

Suicide queens are the hens that flush in front of a dog and drag the dog out on a chase while the rooster sticks to the ground like glue and gives the figure 8 runaround.I learned this from an old female setter bless her heart,she nailed a bird,as I walked in on her point a hen rocketed out of there,now if the dog was a "huntin" dog she would have taken off in hot pursuit but she stood her ground,and that's when I spotted 2 roosters figure 8ing the grass in an escape attempt,I hustled over and put one in the air,killed it,when the gun went off the other got nervous and made the mistake of jumping and he got it too.I've seen pheasants do this very thing in 2 states,eastern washington and south dakota.I call it suicide queen because most folks would just keep on trucking after flushing a hen,especially if the dog takes off chasing.I always make sure to get the dog to hunt around the area before moving on.

Just ask and pay me instead!  I wrote the book on pheasant hunting (along with my dog).  Okay, I just edited it, but still.
