I shoot a single pin non adjustible. I love it for hunting, but for 3D its not that great. I'm going to go to a single pin adjustable. I plan on just setting it at 30 yards for hunting. You do have to practice with it to lern where it hits at 20 and 40 yards.

went in to the nock point today (good people!) and they said the Hogg father or even the tommy Hogg would be more of a target sight. I'm not gonna lie...i'm a cameron hanes fan and when i see that he's shooting 140 yards with the single pin hogg father it makes me want to try one. And he hunts with that sight. The Nock point guys recommended the HHA optimizer though. I think once the season is over I'll go in there and try one out on my bow. I also like the black gold Ascent.

please note I wouldn't ever shoot an animal out of effective range. I believe practicing long shots makes everything inside of that a breeze though.

I used a Sight Master for years and loved it ...but I prefer pins ...you guys are right about having a quick shot and fixed pins are better

My close eye sight is poor, any more than one pin and they all become a blur.  So, single pin adjustable is a life saver for me.  Been strictly blacktail hunting, have yet to see one not curious enough to give me time to adjust.

My close eye is the same stringer...I shoot with 3 pins and at times they are all a blurr.  I know if the top blurry pin is some where in the middle of the target she hits home.  Might not be a dead on bulls eye, but she is in the kill zone...and that is 20 yards.
I too am looking at a better sight for next years elk season.
If you love something you will set it free, if it don't come home, hunt it down and kill it.

I put an HHA Optimizer Ultra on my bow this year. It has the dial vs the vertical adjustment of the regular Optimizer. I can hold the bow with my left hand, move the dial with my right thumb, pop my release on the string and draw. I've practiced the movement enough to be pretty smooth at it. However, if the game starts moving, you'll have to decide to re-adjust the sight or shoot high or low. If you decide to re-adjust you're taking your eye off the target and taking precious time. If I'm still hunting, I keep it at 30-35 yards. If I'm blind hunting, I'm ranging in several trees, rocks and sage it might walk by, so I can range faster. Multiple pins are great, but I've had viability issues with multiple pins and I always have to guess when shooting in between pins anyway. The HHA is adjustable by 1 yard increments and I have it dialed in to deadly accurate at 70 yards (in a controlled environment). I would never shoot at game from that distance, but with this single pin from 40-45 yards in the field, I'll never go back to multi-pin.

I'll have to say, I'll have to stick with has worked for me for the last 25 years, Multi pin! I do like the single pin idea, but not for me.

if you're shooting over 50 yards your lobbing arrows anyhow I thought the purpose of Bow hunting was to get closer to your game
there are plenty of people who can and do effectively take game at ranges farther than 50 yards. Maybe the purpose of bowhunting is to take game with a bow... :chuckle: do you say the opposite for rifle hunters? Like thinking the purpose of rifle hunting was to shoot very far... what about the guy who rifle hunts and shoots deer at 30-40 yards? I personally have numerous kills outside of 50 yards and will continue to take the shot if comfortable and within my abilities.

I use a slider with 4 pins for hunting... best of both world's fixed pins to 50 yards and a mover for anything farther. Inside 50 I like to be able to pull up and shoot. Outside that its nice to dial the exact range.

I'd like to hear more about that. Looks like Hogg Father may have options for multiple fixed pins plus a slider as well.
the one I use is a black gold ascent. I use fix pins to 50 yards and then dial the rest. Once you are dialing though always use your lowest pin just like a single pin ajdustable.

what is the furthest you can dial the bottom pin before your fletchings contact the sight housing?

with how mine is set up right now i can get 115-120 yards. then it is pretty close. makes for fun practice that is waaaay too far for me to shoot at critters.

that's all I want.  A sight that I can practice out to 100+ yards but still have it be a good hunting sight.

I can shoot out a little past 100 yards with my single pin Black Gold Ascent.  My current setup is shooting ~285 fps.  That's with the cock vane up, so the least optimal with regards to vane/sight clearance.  Obviously, your mileage may vary depending on your bow setup.

I only use single pin adjustable sights. I prefer them over multi-pin because I personally shoot better with them. This being said.. I am also strictly a tree stand/blind whitetail hunter. There is never a situation I will get into at any of my stands were only having one pin will ever be an issue. If I was primarily a spot and stalk hunter then I would probably use multi-pins.
