decoy weights

I made a ton of the lead strip decoy weights that bend.  Just wondering if anyone needed to buy any or trade something for them.  I can get you as many as need for cheap.

Are they pure lead or a lead/tin mixture?  If they are a mix of anything they will snap in half in quick order if used frequently.  Just thought I would throw it out.

I pour my own buckshot with that lead tin mix... works pretty good. For coyotes

Nope the stuff I use for mine is pure lead.  Good to know about the tin thing though.  Thanks

Virgin lead is a great thing,I made a neck strap weight mold many years ago.Here's another fact for you fellows that salmon fish as well,you'll catch more fish on downrigger balls poured of virgin lead,the lead with the tin in it attracts electrolisis due to the mixture of disimilar metalurgy.

I made a mold because all the ones I have made in the strap form eventually broke from bending around necks. The "J" shaped anchors I make don't mark up the decoys.

I started thinking about this, and I was going to paint the balls or something to cover them. What about the connections? Unless you make them out of lead too there would still be the electrolysis. I use a stainless steel loop on top and either stainless steel or aluminum for a stabalizer fin. From what you said I should seldom catch fish but the freezer is full! That said I am going to try and cover one of them for a test. I hope you are right!

The stainless wire loop is not near as bad as the tin that is in tireweights.We found this info out from the canadian trollers at the commercial fishing store in steveston.
