I have bought a few things from them. Always done fine by me in all 3 areas you listed.

If you follow the bow hunting forums there are always a few guys that have to upgrase to the latest bow every year and you can sometimes find a great deal on a bow that way.

I've spent a lot of money at 3Rivers over the years, it's a reliable outfit.

Take a look at Archerytalk.com, I bought a bow off that site and saved a ton of money.

No PLEASE!!!  Not Archerytalk.com again :chuckle:  Guess I need to think some more about writing that book, "How Archerytalk (aka-Archeryargument) Destroyed The Archery Industry" ;)

3 Rivers is a first class outfit.  They offer a good service and respectable prices.  I don't know anyone who has had a legitimate beef with them.  If your local shop can not service your needs Lancaster Archery does a good job with service too.

What bow are you looking for?

Why is it a bad thing to buy used bows from Archerytalk? Every used bow that is for sale is probably for sale because the owner had to have the latest and greatest. So the archery industry is selling bows because people know they can sell their one or two year old bow to help pay for the brand new bow.

With lots of used bows for sale out there, I see no reason for people on a budget to not take advantage of that. The bow shops will still get their business as they will need to have the bows tuned up, draw lengths adjusted, accessories added, etc.

Having said all that, try eBay as well! That's where I bought my bow.

I buy and sell quite a few bows on AT.  But the comment about AT being a giant pissing match is, unfortunately, pretty much on the money.

 :yeah:

Obviously there's some risk to buying a used bow like anything else used.  Some of that risk can be reduced by buying brands that offer lifetime warranties no matter who the owner is (e.g. Athens Archery)

Because it's Archerytalk!  That's where the devil lives :o  And about 1,000 active, know it all, narcissistic, argumentative, complete *censored*, thieving dweebs.

Nothing wrong with buying used bows.  Though you do have to be extra diligent when purchasing any used traditional bow.  Probably just as many deals to be had on EBay without the relentless bickering.  For the traditional archer Trad Gang forum will probably produce more good traditional bow leads than either Archerytalk or EBay.

Myself, I like return policies and customer service when it comes to the purchase of archery equipment.  That goes double for wood laminated stuff and traditional goods.  To me it's worth more than the minimal savings in buying used.  And comes with a certain level of comfort and piece of mind.  But that's me :dunno:

the bow i am wanting is the bear super kodiak 64" grayling green, and that is my thoughts exactly, especially buying something that could be damaged so easily if not properly taken care of. . . and you never know with used gear. Now if i was looking for another compound i wouldn't hesitate buying used  :chuckle:

Good bow!  Especially nice for a giant like yourself :chuckle:

Going to be a hard bow to find.  Lancaster or 3 Rivers will probably be your best bets to find one in-stock.  Though they are both selling that bow at full retail.  You might be able to get a local Bear Dealer to make you a deal if you prepay on a special order for it.  From Shelton that's probably Lucky Shot or Wholesale Sports. (sorry if I missed one closer)
