Any experience with Canon Repair Service?
« on: December 04, 2012, 01:06:04 PM »
My 40D, went wonky on me.  Getting the Err 01 no communication between camera and lens...

I cleaned the contacts.  Did hard reset on camera (pulled both batteries) Still same message.

Sending it off to Canon today, for repairs.  Hope it is back by Christmas.

Sorry to hear that my friend!  :( The last time I had trouble with a Canon Point and shoot A530 I shipped it off and had it back within 10 days! :) So, as far as I'm concerned that was pretty darned good service!

Dick, it happens..

They do say 5-7 business days after they get it.. I shipped it Priority Mail with insurance and tracking..

So am hoping to have it fixed and back well before Christmas.  But even the authorized service centers said it had to go to Canon.  So I just called the one in Irvine and it is all set up with them already.  They know it is coming with a repair order already written.

Did you try a different lens? Mine did that once and it was the chip in the lens that had gone bad.

Phool, I tried 3 different lenses.  I got the same ERR 01 with all of them.  When I called Canon, they said if it was only 1 lens then send the lens in... since it was multiple lenses, it was the camera body itself.  Should be about 180.00 plus shipping from what I have researched.

You might consider having them put a new shutter in at as well as long as they have it apart. :twocents:

My 17-55mm lens does that sometimes with my 20D.  I played with it and if I turned off IS, it worked fine.  Just sharing what I experienced.

Sounds like it's the shutter.  That's exactly what mine have done once the shutter goes out.  I've had that with the 40D twice.  About $200 and you'll have it back working.
