only thing i have to say is stay away from the howa, accurate rifle but they way too much, i love mine in .300 wsm but it can be a bother to carry around all day especially when ounces matter

Tikka T3 lite 270wsm I own one in 300win mag, this gun is the best value in the price range hands down. I have weatherby's, remington's, savage, the tikka out shoots them all out of the box a little over 6lbs. The only down fall is a magazine i like it, but some don't and bad recoil pad which i changed to limbsaver. Now kimbers are sweet rifles not sure of your price range but for about $600.00 and change you wouldn't be disappointed in tikka.

I have a T3 hunter in dark walnut and it's crazy light, and accurate.  Smoothest action and sweet out of the box trigger pull.

The Kimber in .260 Rem would make a sweet rifle for a backpack hunt IMO.

Another rifle worth looking at (if you want to save some money) might be the Savage in 7mm-08.  http://www.savagearms.com/16fhss.htm  With a 22" barrel and only 6.5 pounds, I think the Savage would make a good mountain rifle too.

i packed mine  (thanks again btw) around all late season and couldnt even feel it there. and to think i thought my remington mountain rifle with the slim contour barrel and slimmer stock was light. i couldnt imagine a tikka with slim slimmer stock and barrel.

and the gun killed a deer its first day out thanks to my gf

I would check out the special run Remington did on the Mt Rifles.  It is called the Guide Gun.  Check it out here:

The model shown is ONLY available at Gander Mt (at least that is what I have found).  You would need to call a Gander Mt Store and buy it over the phone if you chose to go that route.  I purchased one in .308.  Nice light rifle, especially with Talley Rings and the right scope.  You can easily get it below 7lbs.  Most of the guys I know use a Leupold 2.5x8 and theirs weigh around 6 1/2 pounds (+/- an ounce or two).
