nobody was drinking anything the topic just came up because we were talking about the area. and a friend said that he had heard that the state had introduced two pairs to that area. i called B.S. but was just curious if anyone else had heard anything

The state cannot and will not release wolves with out going through the full process.  What that entails I do not know.  But, just think about all they went through to release pronghorns and never could!

The process would likely take a couple of years, and would in not way be secret.

What is interesting is that I spend a lot of time in the Willapa hills, and I can remember as a kid sitting in the yard at dark and hearing howling... Not coyote howling and yipping, but honest to goodness howling.  My grandfather would always sit and listen talk about them not being coyotes, and him being someone who was familiar with both, I was and still am inclined to believe him.  I only heard them for about 2 years, and I haven't heard the same howling since.  Lots of yotes still, but never what drawn out wolf howl that I used to hear.  This was probably 1994-1995ish...

I saw 1 single wolf on the H Line down in the Nemah 22 years ago. We asked the local loggers at the tavern if wolves existed down there. They said yes and told us they see a wolve every so many years. We were told that Weyhauser had an issue with the deer and elk herds killing off all there replanted trees, so they introduced a few packs of wolves in the 1950s throughout the Nemah and Willipa Hills. Once the deer and elk herds were thinned, the hunters began to shoot them off to the point of being extinct. Now only a few remain, but not many. Well see what happens 10 years from now...

Oh i understood when and that things were different. The state transplanted all kinds of things back then. But for a timber company to live trap wolves back then and have it done seems a reach but just my 2
However i do beleive you all are seeing them.

Not necessarily wolves,but coyotes for sure. My dad worked for Weyco on the railroad That ran from Longview up towards Camp baker and Alder crk back in the late 50s. They released box car loads of coyotes to help with deer and elk damage.
