2 kinds of widgeon?
« on: December 09, 2012, 02:45:47 PM »
Both mature widgeon but differant coloring on the head. One looks slightly stormy :dunno:

Notice how this euro has an ALL headish head instead of the creamish with black spots

Here is a hybrid though (American + Eurasian)....

Definitely not a Euro or hybrid but what throws me off is the green eye streak w/white vs. the copper-red one.

The 3rd one on the right is the least mature and it still has the green streak

Definitely looks normal to me. Just a little different coloring.

Yeah definitely American but thinking it's the "Stormy" strain from farther up north

Both Americans. Up north has nothing do with the "Stormy" look...it's simply a variation in genetics. Same species.  Nothing special.  That bird is a nice bird regardless.

both mature, wigeon just vary quite a bit in coloration. THe red sheen is because of the camera/light angle on it.

No not the camera or light.  Over the years I've shot a ton of widgeon but never noticed this much difference in color variation side by side.
