Cool and crisp, not to hot!  PERFECT! But you know how that changes haha!
Sorry ridge, at this point in my life, I'd rather spend a week chasing high country mulies than chasing a moose, I'm just glad you don't feel the same as I do!  lol Although the moose meat would be great for college lol When do you start your "quest"????

I can't wait to get up there and see if all my preparation is gonna pay off or not... Regardless it'll be a great time with my bro, but I'm ready to hit it hard this year!  I think I'm looking for a solid 4 point or big mature 3 point....  I'll know him when I see him though!

My bro and I will be hiking in around 9 to 9.5 miles, depending where we camp and how far up a certain place we make it.  Not how close we want our camp to be to where I saw the majority of bucks in the area... I think a 1/2 mile should do the trick and the walk in the mornings will help warm us up!!

Good luck to all of you... I'm also headed up to the GPW... Saw a monster during scouting, hope he's still up there.  It's a 12 mile hike, so i hope i'm packing something out to make it worth the trip.  Hopefully it's cooler up high, and hopefully the mesquitos are gone.(they made for an unpleasent scouting trip in August)

i did an 8miler in august and got some bad heel blisters. So i took my boots to a boot fitter in Seattle, and he fixed up the heel by rolling it out a little ($30) and now I've done a 10mile, 14mile, and climbed Mt St Helens in the boots and haven't got any blisters again. You may want to think about it.

Also bring some moleskin and apply in affected area as soon as you start feeling the rubbing. Oh another trick that I've been using is a nice liner sock under my main sock. The 2 socks help transfer the slipping motion to between the socks and not to your skin. ive used the 2 socks in 70-80deg weather and my feet stay fairly cool for gore tex boots.

Good luck, i'll be up in the area this weekend and next weekend.

Oh c'mon you ameatures!  All you go to do is take a roll of athletic tape, and BEFORE you start hiking put a small 2 1/2" section on your heel (make sure to put it on nice and straight) then put you sock over it.  Once your foot is in the boot the tape stays in place really well and I guarantee you no blisters...  Anywhere you start to get blisters just put a piece of tape over it.  Works like a charm...

moleskin is like a fuzzy piece of tape, does the same thing (but in a less manly way) that Michael is referring to using athletic tape. You can pick it up at walgreens or any pharmacy type place.

A big 4+ point, i would say close to 28 wide, and a lot taller rack then it was wide, still in the velvet, so of course it looked bigger then it probably actually is.  I'll have to shot it, then i can give you a score on it.  ;)

Crabcreekhunter....wish you were hiking up with me also.  Keep working hard at your baseball.  All of us on this board have the opportunity to hunt, but very few of us, if any of us have had, and will never have the opportunity to play Division 1.  I've never, nor will ever hit GrandSlams or saw-off batters with 90+ gassers.  That's got to be one hell of a good feeling.  I'll try to knock the "RedMist" out the backside of a big buck for you this week.  You just smack the "RedMist" off those baseballs, and throw "DeadRed".  I've been living a part of my life through you for a long time. Life is good.  Life with hunting and baseball is great. I'll head in Sunday.  Come out only to restock food and head back in until the job is done.  I gonna try to take the mound and close this game with my best pitch.  It's called a "TUSKER", and it ain't no meatball.  Dad

Hey dad.. thanks for the post.. wish you luck up there.. I know where your headed but let me know if your plans change at all so somebody knows where your at.. I know you will put something down as we have every year on opening day.. but make it good so when you kill yourself on the pack out it wont be for something we already have.. hahaa.. that one buck should be back and be real good this year be nice if you could put him down.. well.. I sent you and mom an email tonight hope all is well at home.. hunt safe and have fun these next few days and don't go using any trees as a spear/pole-vault and impailing yourself anymore!  :chuckle:
