Good luck to all of you... I'm also headed up to the GPW... Saw a monster during scouting, hope he's still up there. It's a 12 mile hike, so i hope i'm packing something out to make it worth the trip. Hopefully it's cooler up high, and hopefully the mesquitos are gone.(they made for an unpleasent scouting trip in August)
Maybe some monster blisters, hopefully it is a little cooler up there for you guys, either way I can't wait to see the pics and hear the stories when you get back, I'll be wishing I was up there, thats for sure.
i did an 8miler in august and got some bad heel blisters. So i took my boots to a boot fitter in Seattle, and he fixed up the heel by rolling it out a little ($30) and now I've done a 10mile, 14mile, and climbed Mt St Helens in the boots and haven't got any blisters again. You may want to think about it. Also bring some moleskin and apply in affected area as soon as you start feeling the rubbing. Oh another trick that I've been using is a nice liner sock under my main sock. The 2 socks help transfer the slipping motion to between the socks and not to your skin. ive used the 2 socks in 70-80deg weather and my feet stay fairly cool for gore tex boots.Good luck, i'll be up in the area this weekend and next weekend.AAron
moleskin is like a fuzzy piece of tape, does the same thing (but in a less manly way) that Michael is referring to using athletic tape. You can pick it up at walgreens or any pharmacy type place.
MichaelJ, you shouldn't have posted this last pic, I know where it is and I see a big buck in the lower right corner.

Crabcreekhunter....wish you were hiking up with me also. Keep working hard at your baseball. All of us on this board have the opportunity to hunt, but very few of us, if any of us have had, and will never have the opportunity to play Division 1. I've never, nor will ever hit GrandSlams or saw-off batters with 90+ gassers. That's got to be one hell of a good feeling. I'll try to knock the "RedMist" out the backside of a big buck for you this week. You just smack the "RedMist" off those baseballs, and throw "DeadRed". I've been living a part of my life through you for a long time. Life is good. Life with hunting and baseball is great. I'll head in Sunday. Come out only to restock food and head back in until the job is done. I gonna try to take the mound and close this game with my best pitch. It's called a "TUSKER", and it ain't no meatball. Dad
