Angled Or Straight Eyepiece On Your Spotting Scope

Just wondering what you guys preference is for your spotting scope eyepiece and why

Straight. If you're looking at something downhill, you've got to get up high to be able to look through it. I also get a crooked neck having to look down for hours at a time. I think angled ones are good for the range but I don't like them out hunting.

I've owned both and prefer strait, it's much easier to look down the top of the scope to line up what you are looking at before looking through it.

Straight is what I bought, but had the same question as you before I made the purchase. Now that I have a straight one and have used it for hunting and at the range I have no complaints so I would recommend straight.

same people who like 85mm objectives and 75x zoom.

     Lots of good points here!  There are Pro's & Con's of both, but I prefer Angled all the way! I felt the same way about straight years ago but changed my tune! Angled has been the most comfortable on my eyes & neck especially on the longer durations behind the glass! At first it will seem Straight gets on a intended target quicker but with a few practice sessions you will find Angled is just as quick & much better in the long run when glassing for hours through a Spotter! I use my Spotter more than my binos at everything over 1000yds.

I agree pro's and con's to both. I like a strait eyepiece better myself. I sold my angled could not get use to it.

It's all going to boil down to what you like personally. Me I own an angled body and love it looking down hill at steep angles takes some getting used to and target acquisition takes some practice but once I got used to it I doubt ill ever buy a straight body spotter

I use straight since it fits in my pack or storage tube much better.  Though I do sometimes want angled.

To me an angled spotter is only better if you glass for long periods of time from the same position. Just easier on the neck. Straight for everything else which is what I choose.

I have an angled. I bought it because out was ridiculously cheap and I couldn't pass the deal up.

Some of the pluses for angled include easier sharing with your hunting buddies if they are a similar height as you. Also if your glassing straight out or up a hill I think angled is better. As others have aluded to, it sure sucks when siting on top of a hill and wanting to glass down at a steep angle. That's what I find myself doing a lot and for that reason alone I   wish I had a straight spotter.

It's a camo clothing party!  Solid earth-toners need not apply. 

You can sit for hours with your head braced to your knees by your hands.  Look at the guys with binos - much easier, steadier and less fatiguing to sit with elbows on knees versus sitting upright.  Lots easier to sit that way with an angled scope vs. straight. 

Angled scope means smaller/lighter (and cheaper) tripod.  This is a good thing for backpacking. 

Angled scopes typically have a rotating mounting collar.  Rotate the scope 90° if you insist on looking through it straight. 

Angled for the win.

I'll put in a plug for angled.  I've used both quite a bit and find the angled to be overall more versatile.... especially when you start to factor in that you can spin it and view from the side, etc.  Really is nice on the range.  Comfort is subjective but I always found long stints, especially on sloped ground more comfortable w/ the angled too.  That being said I don't think there's an overwhelming advantage to either.
