I have to apologize. I do not know how far the shot was. I don't want to start rumors about him shooting 100yds.

So he aimed for the head..real ethical glad he didn't hit it in the jaw or nose.

Not sure I'd take that shot, but at 15 ft with a compound set up well you can split arrows.  He may have been real comfortable with the shot.  My only worry would be if the deer moved right as I was releasing.

I'm not defending the kid because based on his history on the site I don't know that he deserves to be defended about anything.  However, it's possible that the head shot was a second shot to put it down.  I shot a buck in 2010 and single lunged him, right before dark all I had was a 30 yard head shot from the rear and put two arrows through his skull to put him down for good.

I took a shot a a spike elk one year that was broad side. Right when i pulled the trigger he turned and I drilled him in the back of the head and down he went. If he ran the way he was facing I would have shot over his back and he would still be alive.

I took a throat shot on a deer last year and it spun as soon as I shot. My arrow struck in the back of the head at the base of the skull. That deer went a long ways and the tracking was tough but we got it. Everyone has or will make a bad choice while hunting I agree a head shot is not the best shot to take with a bow but it got the job done and he has a nice buck to show for it!
Remember that buck is climbing that Mt. every day!
