I don't think there is a "BEST DEER CALIBER".   Thats kind of like asking what is the best candy bar?  Everyone has their own opinion.  Just pick which flavor works for you.  My favorite flavor is 7-08 topped with Snickers coated 139 gr Hornady Interbond (but I'm not saying it is "THE BEST").

What are you nuts? Payday is the best candy bar! God, it's like some people walk around asleep all day long! :chuckle: :chuckle:

You both are wrong.... BUTTERFINGER is the best candy bar....

I can see this blowing up into a shouting match any minute!

 :lol4: :lol4: :lol4: :lol4: :lol4:

And the .257 Roberts is the best deer caliber ever devised by man... it is simply in an elite class of deer killing that no  other caliber will ever attain.....   :peep: :peep: :bumpin: :bumpin:
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.

I already have a .270 and a .300WSM. If I were to get another, it would either be a .308 or a 30.06. Large range of available factory ammo and stone cold killers. All the rest are cool too. Maybe trade out my .300WSM for a .300 Wm???

Belgian Dark Chocolate...The best? Cote D'OR...  Other wise Hersheys with almonds....

The one you shoot best and like best and appeals to you.

Get a .308!!!  Everything you point it at will be DRT

Is see this in a lot of posts, what is DRT?

Technically, this is not accurate.

The term DRT actually started when many people witnessed a marksman shooting multiple deer with a 257 Roberts.    No matter how many times he shot them, the deer never went down.    The good news was that due to the overall impotence of the 257 Roberts, none of the deer were seriously injured.

Last the crowd saw, he threw the rifle into a garade can and shouted "DARNED ROBERTS TRASH".

It was quickly shortened to DRT.

Ya'll can say what ya'll want, but I really believe you'll lose less deer if you use a larger cal.

Maybe just bad experience clouding my judgment, but shooting a deer and it getting away with a rifle just is not acceptable.  I really want them to hit the dirt right there.  Not run 100 yards and then die with no blood trail.
