Hey, I made the NY Times newspaper!
« on: September 10, 2008, 06:02:15 PM »
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/11/technology/personaltech/11basics.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

I had a post on here a while ago about converting an old manual focus lens to a new DSLR camera.  While everyone ignored it because you have to manually focus the lens, a few caught the idea and were interested.  One such person was a photojournalist from the New York Times newspaper.  He did a story on converting lenses and I got my picture in the paper.  I think I kind of look like a bit of a tool in my picture, but my wife said I look hot.   :dunno:  So if you get the NY Times tomorrow, this story will be running in it.

I thought it was kind of fun.

So the obvious question is did you apply for the design patent, utility patent or both. If you're firm doesnt handle these I have a good patent attorney I could hook you up with, he isn't cheap but he's very good. :chuckle:

No patent.  I'm deciding to keep my day job.

The lens is kind of neat.  It goes to show you that you don't need to spend $1500 to get a great lens.  The lens is readily available for 50-100 dollars and about 20 dollars for the mount...  Oh and about 1 hour of your time.  The results are stunning.

I'll keep all of this in mind when I make my return from MT.

There has been a lot of questions about the procedure on converting the lens.  Here is a link to the instructions I have.  Of course, you can always contact me and we can talk in detail how to do it.

http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/662803

Essentially you just buy the mount on ebay, sand it down to the proper thickness, and then drill a few holes in it.  If you have a drill, a dremel and a belt sander or piece of sand paper, you are good to go.
