Ceded land? How about ceded land accessible by the same form of transportation of the day the treaty was signed, IE: ceded land you can walk to.

No Yakima ever hunted this far from home for meat for his family.

They (the Yakamas) actually went all the way to Montana to hunt buffalo. So did some of tribes of the Colville Confederated Tribes...

This is why the treaties should be revoked. The white/European peoples have hunting and fishing as part of their cultural and historical way of life as the Indian tribes. If they won't regulate themselves and abide by the treaty as intended the special privilege should not be granted.

If nothing else, the tribal members could apply for and be granted does tags for meat harvest, say one per family per month. If the tag is not reported as filled then it will rollover to the next month and an additional tag will not be issued. They would still be allowed the regular hunting seasons as the rest of the state with the same tag as the rest of the state. This gives the state the ability to regulate and enforce their cooperation with treaty rights rather than the freedom to decimate wildlife populations.

I saw that same red Toyota pick up in oak creek this past week. He had two 4 points and a bull piled in back.  This b.s needs to stop.  The f....n gate is still open.  It is going to be a massacre. Might call Baird, Ross, and other wdfw  :bash:people tomorrow as they need to close the oak creek gate :bash: :bash:

Didn't read this entire thread so if I'm way off base sorry, but gates won't stop the tribe from hunting the area. They will just rip the gates open like they do in the forks area, they rip the gates open there all the time and nothing can be done about it. So, I agree gates should be locked in wintering areas, but don't be surprised if they just break them open and laugh in our face.
“In common with”..... not so much!!

Exactly when were these treaties formed/signed?

This whole story makes me sick. I'm sure tag numbers will be cut back even more in the next year or two. This needs to stop.

And I'm not a historian but I do believe these treaties have been changed or edited several times since then.
