Go pro hero 3. What do you think?
« on: December 13, 2012, 10:13:38 PM »
So I've read a lot of good reviews, and I'm sure Santa will get me the hero 3 black edition, but I'm wondering what actual owners think.  I will try to film my next hunt (probably turkey) in the spring, then onto elk in september.

Me and my buddy have the hero 2 with fish eye lens. Im impressed with the quality for what it is and the ease of use. I would buy the three if I could do it over though. Ill be post up a video in the next few days were all of the footage was taken with it

I have the silver and the black I like the quality but anything past 20 yards you can't see! I'm still tinkering with them though. With the amount of money I spent on go pros I could have bought a decent dslr!

Dang, I'm behind the times. I'm still hoping for a hero 2. I didn't even know there was a 3 available. Tagging to see what it's all about.

great scenery and detail stuff, but trying to film a hunt past 10 yards it looks like a speck..they keep getting more and more money..u can buy a low end sony HD for $330 now and way better for hunt filming

I have the Hero HD.  They're all about the same in footage quality.  Like others said, if you're filming anything past 10 or 20 yards, you won't see much detail.  I'll be focusing on using my HD camcorder and just use the Hero pointing at me instead.

I'd buy thet swann freestyle hd.  you get the lcd back and a remote for $150ish. You are over $400 to get a gopro and the add ons.  Go pro is a touch better, but not that much.  You won't get great hunting footage with either.  But it is also hard to video yourself with a handheld.  Maybe a guy could run both?

go pro quality is good, very small and very simple to use. They have their use not different than a set of binocs or a spotter. They don't replace each other. Ever watch solo hunter's?  They use both for what they are meant to do.  Using a go pro is easy to click on and film not worrying about anything. To use something with a zoom for long shots you have to spend time setting up, getting the zoom in and filming. That is why folks love the go pro even though it doesnt cover the long zoom shots.
