Shooting Course Ideas

I hope this attachment shows up alright, but on New Years we're going to do a shoot with some guys (last year about 30 people showed up) and I've taken it upon myself to set it up again this year.  I'm planning to set it up like the picture, but wanted to know if anybody had any 'interactive target' ideas.  We'll just be doing pistol shooting in this area.  We're not professionals by any means but I want to show everyone a good time.  Let me know if you have any ideas!  Thanks.

Just skip ahead a bit....mainly posted that to show the "car" scenario and the use of pop up and swinging targets...

That was cool.  Anybody have any cheap plans or ideas of swinging targets?

My dad builds them with pvc and sand.....just uses gravity and enertia for the action. I'll shoot him an email but don't think he has ever put pen to paper.

I have seen used garage door openers rigged to do moving targets for archery shoots. Could probably do the same for pistol shooting. Just push the button and the target moves across.

These are dueling plates. 6" steels... You reset by a long bar across the back of all the plates and a rope back to the shooters position.
Absolute riot.... A good shooter will be around 6 secs....

You can make a dueling tree as well. Same idea, targets stood straight up, and slight angle away from shooters.
Get 6 -8 plates on a tree.
Start with 4 on each side, and start shooting.
Whoever has the most plates on their side after 4 mags loses, or whoever gets all the plates on their side loses....
This can go back and fourth a bunch with two good shooters.
Most fun you can have with a hand gun IMO

The only suggestion I would make is to make it "freestyle" where the competitor can shoot from any location instead of running "box to box".  It makes people think a little bit more and plan.  You need to go to a USPSA match (if you haven't already).  I have seen where people have rigged an RC car up to carry a target.  I have not tried it but it can be done until someone shoots low!  Have fun.
