Finally have time to share. This is for you guys looking forward to that first big game hunt.
At 9 my boy passed hunters safety with a 92% and we’re on our way. I couldn’t have been more proud. Okay where to go and how to get it done??? I put him in for as many antlerless permits as possible to better his odds. Without any points he drew a 101 tag. During the late summer and early fall I got him out to the range about a ½ dozen times and made him roll his own ammo. He wasn’t shooting too tight of groups at 100 (maybe 2-3) but he could ring bell every time at 225. When it was time to go I couldn’t tell who was more excited him or me. To cut to the chase we set up a small camp and looked around the first day. I spotted a few deer just before dark about 300 yards out but didn’t point them out to him for a few reasons. Next day we hit some thinned timber just behind where I spotted the deer the night before. We spent a couple hours in the timber before we came across a few does. They didn’t notice us and were feeding about 150 yards in front of us. I stood in place until my boy spotted them and when he did it was dad DAD as he was pointing. I told him they were a little far and we should try and split the distance. No problem, we slipped in behind a little mound and he whacked her at about 70 yards. Perfect quartering away shot.
The rest is history. The MADD BOMBER has one under his belt and many to come.

Outstanding! I cannot wait until my son is old enough so we can experience something like this together.

Nothing better than seeing younger hunters have a great hunt.

I like that you let him spot the does on his own...adds to his experience. That's a nice doe.

That's very cool, love the wall tent setup. I'll be taking two of my daughters out next year after their first deer.

I love the fact that you set up a real camp instead of a tin TP, and I'm glad the hunt happened the way it did. These memories are part of the essence of growing up. My kids are all grown and have little ones of their own. I treasure the camps we did when they were young and can't wait till the grand kids get old enough to take along on some trips too. Way to go!
