I still don't get how providing photos of dead deer in the back of a truck is proof of anything, other than showing that Yakama tribal members are exercising their right to hunt in their ceded lands.

We already know it happens, proof isn't really necessary. What we do need is the WDFW acknowledging that there is a problem with excessive killing of mule deer while they are most vulnerable on their winter range.

As others have already stated, there are already numerous areas that are closed during the winter months to protect wildlife from poaching, tribal over-harvest, and stress caused by people and motorized vehicles.

So what is needed here is some cooperation between the Forest Service and the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. But first, the WDFW needs to hear from us. Then if they agree the Entiat mule deer need protection, they need to work with the Forest Service in getting the area shut down for whatever period of time they decide is necessary.

If they can rewrite the second amendment they sure can rewrite a treaty it;s done all the time when something is so far outdated.

Not trying to be argumentative, but I think the "outdated treaty" argument is always made with a lack of understanding.  The treaties have essentially been rewritten numerous times over the course of history through court decision, congressional acts, etc... and very seldom (if ever) have these "re-writes" been to the benefit of Indians.

Then what you're saying is that it might be doable to exclude the harvest of winter range deer on certain ceeded grounds, with the re-writing of this treaty?  If so, this is the option that I feel all of us hunters should suggest to pretect this critical resource.

Why do the treaties have to be rewrote? why can't the tribal leaders get together to protect the herds and take care of a huge problem of over harvest by a few members . This doesn't have to be a Whitey VS. Indian issue just people using common sense to manage a great resource.  :bash:

"How can you guys let this go on for 30 pages   USELESS   Nothen we can do about it ...Well legally  "

Really?  I'm asking....What about the voter initiative process?  Something along the lines of tribes being allowed to hunt how they want and when they want only applying to reservation lands.  All other "public " land users need to follow the same rules.  Novel idea huh?

I'm serious here.  Look at last falls election.  The Gays and Dope smokers got their legislation pushed through right?  I'm assuming we can use the same vehicle.
the initiatives concern state law, the tribes are under federal laws.  Might get a change on some state lands with the open and unclaimed, but they were exempt from discover passes.  Also, hunting and initiatives don't seem to work out too well in the I-5 voter state.

No, that's not what I'm saying, but you're more than welcome to say it.

What I'm saying is that people think treaties need to be "re-written" because they're "outdated", but in reality they've been re-written numerous times, much to the detriment of Indians.

The solution to the situation in Entiat isn't a "re-write" of the treaty.  A "treaty right" is not slaughtering wintering deer in Entiat...an idiot is.

I think I've heard something along those lines before in a similar debate.

Its game laws and management that need to be updated not the Treaties.

Being able to kill whatever you want whenever you want is not ok no matter what. When the treaties were signed, animals were killed strictly for survival purposes. Well that is no longer the case and there has to be some sort of limit and season.

Why are you acting as if rewriting the treaty's would be a bad thing? If it helped reduce the over harvest of deer on their winter range then why not? It would remove the shield these scum bags hide behind every winter by saying "it's my right". I just don't understand how anyone in their right mind can argue that what is being done in the entiat, swakane, mission, clockum, etc., etc. is ok because it is your/their "right" to do so. Also, I realize that "Time" was attempting to be funny Plat. That is exactly what my point was. Why just come on here and push buttons and provide NO intelligent answers/comments whatsoever. Sure, that goes for both sides. You only make yourself look STUPID.

I think it might be time to try to hire Tim Iman (spelling?)  And I think if it was proposed as an initiative to "limit" the killing of vulnerable deer the West side tree hugger gang might support it?????
