Where were your birds banded?
« on: December 20, 2012, 09:51:16 AM »
I thought I'd start a spinoff on the other band thread.  To me, the coolest part of killing a band is learning how old the bird is and where it is from.  So, post up what birds you've killed that were banded, how old, and where they were from.  Also, it is interesting to know where you killed the bird to see if it was near the banding site.

I've shot 2: A mallard drake that was over 10 years old from Alberta and a teal drake that was 2 years old from the Yukon Delta.  Both shot in Washington.

Around 1992, shot a hen mallard on the Snohomish River that had been banded two months earlier in northern CA.  Can't remember the age.

Me to but got it in Burbank, WA.  Drake mallard banded too young to fly in N. Cali back in 03 and got it that year.  Flew north for the winter.

Last year in Skagit County I shot a Mallard that was banded 40 miles west of Fairbanks, AK in 2008.  I thought it was pretty impressive how far they migrate.

Shot a drake mallard this season, banded in NorCal 4 years ago.

We have most of our birds from Canada, bc, Alberta and Saskatchewan, and then we have a drake mallard shot 3 weeks ago from Fairbanks and he was I think 4 and then a teal hen from Fairbanks and she was hatched in July 31 2009
