Browning BLR
« on: January 05, 2009, 11:31:18 AM »
Anyone have any experience with the Browning BLR?  I’m looking at one in 450 Marlin and it looks like a step up from the Marlin lever guns.  Any opinions?

I have one in .325 wsm and it is a great rifle.  I have always liked lever guns and the BLR is a step up from the Marlin.  Marlins are great rifles as well, I have one in .444 but the BLR has a rotary action that locks lown like a bolt action rifle which should make it at least a bit more accurate than the Marlin.  That being said in .450 either would be of acceptable accuracy and you couldn't go wrong with either one.  I would probably lean towards the BLR, with the new ammo from Hornady you get a bit more velocity and the BLR would probably make it a little more of a long range thumper.

I have owned a BLR in .308 for over 20 years.  It will shoot just as accurate as any over the counter bolt gun for hunting.  Mine finally has a problem, I think the sear or hammer has worn as it fires on closing the action part of the time.  I am sending it in to have it fixed and use it for deer for another 20 years.
It is lightweight, accurate, and dependable.  You can not go wrong if you want the strongest lever gun available.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Had a blr in .308 for a while.  Didn't like it at all.  Don't really know why.  I do have a marlin 1895 in 45-70 and I love it.  I shoot handloads in it.   With 38grs of 3031 behind a 520gr cast bullet (1300fps) it will shoot 1/2 inch groups at 100yds.  But if you like the BLR's get one I have heard nothing but good about them.
