R-15???

Looking at getting an R-15 with 20" stainless barrel for hunting and whatever 😎 I'd put on an adjustable stock.

I know they are not the highest end but what do you guys think? I've found a couple for $999 normally $1249.

Thoughts?

I looked at one tonight for 1,050 used but in great condtion and could not pull the trigger.  The barrel is 1:9 and I want a 1:8.  Not sure if that matters, but everyone I have talked to says 1:8 or 1:7 or nothing...if you want to shoot heavier bullets.  ??  definitely not an expert though.

The 1-9's should spin the 77MK's unless you are at sea level. It will definitely spin the 60 grain BT's.

I like the heavy 224 bullets that are mag length frendly. So I'll shoot the 77's if I can and if not the 60 BT gets the nod.
Ther are some bonded type 60-65 grain bullets that will also shoot well in the 9 twist.

I have a Bushmaster Varminter as well, they both shoot 5.56 or .223. It will have the caliber stamped right on the lower unit.

Keep in mind the Varminter/R-15 are designed for hunting and are heavier than your typical AR platform rifle.

Cousin and brother in law each have one. Good shooting guns killed a few coyotes and LOTS of ground squirrels with them. they both have them toped with the Nikon Varmint BDC and seem to like them.

Dpms/bushmaster/remington are all owned by the same big corp. The r-15 is good to go if you like the twist rate.
