I know the answer, and also know these are not seen often.  I got to play big game hunter tonight when I got home from work.  This guy was invading my space.  It was in self defense I promise!


For anyone concerned this little guy may be a protected species.  He is not

I do believe you found your self one of them Packraps.
As a kid parents were night fishing Deer lake for silver and they were playing cards in a cousin's cabin. He sent a 22 round through the ceiling and there was blood dripping on the table but the noise stopped. Ok so maybe we are a bit hillbilly over here, but it was over 40 years ago.

The thought did cross my mind.  He is big enough.  I bet KFhunter would take a run at putting him on his BBQ in a heartbeat.

To be honest, I'm thinking about doing a taxi mount with him.  They are a unique looking bugger.

Yeah the more i look at it the cooler it is. got some whiskers eh and i wouldnt want it ripping at my pant legs thats for sure. You should think about a hyped up pscho zombie rodent type of mount. whats its front claws and teeth look like?

The claws are long and sharp.  The upper teeth are long and yellowish.

Sorry for the late update to this.  Yes, this is a mountain beaver for those of you that did not know.  I have taken him to my taxidermist and he will be mounted in a woodland type setting.  Should be a pretty cool mount.  The taxi says these are brought in fairly rarely.  Usually come in from someone on a tree farm or something of the kind.

For anyone who's got an infestation of them, I have found a means of controlling them.  Anytime I find a new borrow, I dump some cat poop from the litter box in it.  For some reason, they seem to really not like that.

Mountain beaver, identified by their lack of a tail, sizable teeth and claws. We had one in our backyard here in Bothell (proper) a couple of summers ago...freaked me out as I didn't know what it was and it was huge!
