Gun Safes?

I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but since a safe will hold guns and ammo here I go. I am looking for a Quality Gun safe that could hold 10-15 long guns in it. Does anyone know of any good specials on Quality gun safes right now. I know there are many variables in types of safes, but if you were going to get a good one that would protect your assets which one would it be?

Maybe once this dies down a little, I'll be in the market this next fall sometime unless a smoking deal comes my way.

I bought a Winchester gun safe at Costco for about $400 or so this past September. It holds up to 24 guns or 12 guns + shelving to hold ammo.

I bought a Sturdy last year. Cost a bit but I'd prefer to pay a bit more for a safe that can't be pried apart with screwdrivers or the welds busted with a sledgehammer.

I got mine at Costco but you have to haul it yourself. They very in who they buy from but they are good safes and the cost is very good. Other than that Cabela's to get a veiw of a few or a few of the shops around. From that price range you'll have now problem getting what you need.

Cabelas has  good deals on Liberty safes which are made in USA.Costco safes are not.
 I bought mine a couple weeks back, woodsman 30  $999 24...$879
 Classic 30 $1410 could have had it for $1219 when I bought the woodsman. Also had a $75 off on purchase of 999 or more and 50 pts so It was under $900 Costco had a 48 gun Winchester (China, I believe) for $799 at that time. Besides the import issue, I was worried about the weight of that one.

There are usually a couple of local safe dealers at the Sportmans Show, which is just around the corner.  Checking prices, both NW in Enumclaw and the company in Bellingham were competitive with Cabelas.  They also offer delivery for a reasonable amount.

It's nice to buy local (REI, Costco and Amazon exempted)

Just remember even name brand safes like liberty make cheap models, I seen a video of 2 guys breaking into a liberty safe in under 2 minutes by laying it on it's back, I asked Dave  at nw safe about it and he said it was a cheaper model to compete with Costco and Lowes type stores, its like everything else you get what you pay for

Looks like you are from Snohomish.  Take a drive to Monroe and check out "Elite Lock and Safes."  Great shop in shopping center just behind the Shell station on Hwy 2 and Woods Creek road.  Small shop, but good selection (and good prices) of high quality safes.

Does the Woodsman have 4-way locking bolts?

I am also in the market for a safe and that is of high importantance to me. I was going to order the Bighorn B6030EL from costco after Christmas, but they just pulled it from their website this week so now im back to shopping.

NW Safe in Enumclaw

   Bought a browning Prestige model there a couple years ago.  Upper end Browning which on sale was less than the lower-mid range Brownings at Wholesale etc.  I like Browning safes because you can store 10 guns without scopes (shotguns, .22's etc.) on the inside door before you even get into the inside storage  Great service, delivery and set up.  Lots to look at and great prices.  If you don't check them out before you buy....your loss.

Where is Western Safe located at in Mukilteo? I work there and use to live there and have never heard of them before. I did a quick search and nothing popped up. I would be really interested in looking at what they have.

When you get to narrowing the choices down, I like to grab the door and see how quickly I can move it....like I were fanning a fire. A good safe will have a HEAVY door. Most safes are literally opened like a can from the door. And no matter what.....bolt it down, and if you can bolt it down tight against the off hinge side, even better.

I am with NW Safe in Enumclaw. If you guys have questions, I can answer them.

The first couple I saw are:

Liberty Pro Vaults are a Liberty Centurion, they are US Made. Watchout for the centurions with internal hinges though, they are chinese made. A full line dealer will have US made product, and off brand dealer like lowes will have the chinese stuff.

We are competitive with Cabelas pricing, as a matter of fact, we will beat anyones pricing on the same product.

We do offer delivery like costco to your home for less than what costco would deliver the same safe for. As a matter of fact, we also significantly drop the price of the safe if you want to pick it up, thus you save even more.

I can think of quite a few reasons why Liberty, Superior, Summit, and Browning Pro Series safes in my opinion are a better value than a Cannon safe. The biggest one being the body welding and door shell welding. 2nd being the warranty. Google Search "Cannon Safe problem", you would be horrified by what you find.

The woodsman does not have 4 way locking bolts, it is only covered on two sides of the door.

You do get what you pay for, but we do try to carry the best safe made in every tier or class that each manufacturer offers. Currently I stock 7 different brands of gun safes, I have over 100 gun safes on display in the showroom, and I have somewhere between 500-600 safes in stock in my store in Enumclaw.

I feel the best gun safe you can buy (if your basing this off security and fire protection) is a Graffunder. The best safes you can buy are TL30X6's, these can also be purchased and converted over to gun safe interiors. We carry a line called Original Safe Platinums for the TL30X6's.

You can get a Liberty safe with a 2.5 hour fire rating.  Cannon only goes up to 90 minutes.  Comparable safes (gun capacity and fire rating) between the two, the Liberty is about a $1000 cheaper.

They seem to have about the same construction.  Liberty as a warranty that can transfer will and comes with free in home work and parts for installation of a new safe in the event of fire or attempted break in.

Personally I just like the fire rating, unless someone else knows one that is higher.  You have to figure, fire department could show up too late, decide not to put fire but rather contain it, or something out of there control (on another call or lack of water, who knows  )

Fire ratings are good, but the truth is smoke and water will be the killer if it isn't fire itself.

All the good safes have a seal that expands.  Doesn't matter how much smoke and water there is if your nice wood stocks or any paperwork you might keep in there hit there ignition temp.

Ask your insurance adjuster how many total losses he has seen that never saw a flame....I am not worried, I have a pretty elaborate system that should withstand most everything shy of a nuke.

You can add cinder block walls and threaded steel pipe sprinklers to keep it all safe. The block can be masked to look like something other than a looters gold mine;)

Not too big on the sprinkler systems, seen alot of bad "floods"  when somebody manages to accidently activates one in their house.
Worse I ever seen was an oil furnace backfire, everything was covered in oil soot smoke.

Most guns probably can do okay with smoke and water as long as you can get to them and clean them in a resonable amount of time.
Everything else, I recommend a waterproof/airtight container inside the safe.  I don't think any gun safes are water proof.

We do usually have one in may and september. Howevere, if you wait from september until may, the manufacturers have price increases every year in January and february. So the safes will go on sale in may, but they won't be as discounted as they would be up to december & January range before the price increase. We have a year end clearance going right now, I would take advantage of it. We got word from two of the factories of the increases already.

You guys would be suprised how long a house fire near the fire station will still burn. There was a fire in Bonney lake that started at night while the home owners were sleeping. They got out and the FD showed up within 10 minutes (3 miles away). The house had open flames for HOURS, and the FD was on site for a good 6 hours until they had the hot spots put out. The fire got so hot it melted the wheels on the cars in the garage. It all has to do with what combustibles you have in the house as too how long the fire will burn. From experience, safes under 60 minutes tend to get damaged very badly in a total loss house fire. The higher above 60 minutes you go, the better, and better the inside of the safe will look. Safes like the Superiors and Summits have two fire seals on the door to help keep smoke, soot, and water out of them. Safes are tested for when the temp inside rises above 350 degrees. Above 350 is when paper starts to char. Paper ignites at 418 degrees, powder ignites at 550 degrees. Technically ammo and powder would be ok in a safe if you had a good fire rating. I don't keep my powder, or most of my ammo in my safe. I don't have the room. The inside of safes get steamed from moisture coming out of the fire liner. You want to get them open asap, the longer you wait, the bigger the chance of loss you have on the firearm finishes.

I have had a browning safe for about 10 years and really like it.  One of the biggest complaints about safes is "it's not big enough".  Remember to buy one bigger than the amount of guns you have now (for your future gun collection).  I am amazed in the amount of "important stuff" that I have stored in my safe:  Documents, wifes jewelry, etc.  You can fill it up really quick!

I have 2 safes, one in the bedroom, 24 gun, and one in another room 42 gun safe. The one in the beedroom has the most used guns in it, and they ALL are loaded. Oh a 3rd safe, the one called me thats where my everyday gun goes, and it goes everywhere with me.

Look into Sturdy Safe...  They do not advertise and don't sell in stores, which keeps their costs down.  They also don't do the stuff that people "want"... like 4 way locking bolts (how many banks or military vaults have 4 way locks?  Not as many as you would think) or pretty decorations or even carpet that is glued to the bottom.  What they do make are super heavy and solid safes that seem to outperform other safes of similar size.

Watch their videos, watch them cut holes in their safe just to try to break into the thing... and watch them break into the popular safes too.  It's amazing.

Whatever you get, secure it.  No safe will protect anything after being dragged away by a truck and worked on with no time limit.
