Gift Ideas?
« on: December 21, 2012, 09:10:57 AM »
So my brother-in-law is a flat lander in IA and I was tasked with getting him some gifts. I know he is into walleye fishing but I have no idea about what kind of lures or tackle I should get him. Any ideas?

No walleye angler can ever have enough worm/spinner harnesses....grap a few for selection and ship 'em out. Also...blade baits are used a lot for vertical jigging.

I just moved out here from Dubuque. We verticle jigged 'one eyes' (2"-3" or so jigs) tipped with a live minnow quite a bit there in the winter.  If he ice fishes there is a ton of stuff you could get for that.  There is also an Iowa fishing and huntiing magazine, or In fisherman mag...

Maybe a gift card to Bass Pro Shops or Cabelas, A little impersonable but he can pick out the gear he really wants. Personally, being an avid fisherman, I would prefer a gift card rather than someone guessing what i might need. :twocents:

I think he normally fishes in the spring and summer. I thought about the gift card but i would rather try and get stuff he would use and just give him a gift receipt if he wants to change it.

I used to walleye fish tons. You can never have too many lead jigs, 1/16 oz to 1/4 oz. I swear by Orange.  Burkley makes a three inch grub that I like in Chartruse, or Pumpkin seed.

Thanks guys for the help. I got him a some jigs and a couple rapalas.

Heres my next question. He came out for the holidays and wants to go fishing... what should we go for? Last time he came out we beat the cascade and skagit for a day and came up with nothing. I have caught steelhead here and there but i have never caught them consistently. So should we hit the river again, fish for a different species, or go play on a lake?

If you would rather pm me with a go to idea that would be cool too  :chuckle:

Sorry....pretty crappy weather......don't have much to offer but maybe look into what is open at Reiter Ponds....over by Sultan area.....it is a float and jig area, easy to access, and most of the usual guys will give you a few tips.

If you are near the Columbia you could go after walleye, they are probably moving up toward the dams to get ready for the spawn.
