Bruces Trapline
« on: December 21, 2012, 07:37:32 PM »
Finally making a start. My PU back from the shop and wouldn't you know I get sick plus the damn weather seems intent on setting a record for rain.
Anyway I don't feel up to snuff but managed to get a few traps out. Hope to add a few pics throughout the season.
First check made me feel better.

5 water sets and 7 cat sets.

Sweet!!! I know my buddy use to trap and he talks about it a lot. I think he said back in the day you could only get like 1 or 2 otters in the areas around here per year. Is that the same in your area? Like a quota?

Trapperguy22, just out of curiosity, do the trappers (including the Oregon ones) drop off the fur, or do you have a route, with a truck that you use or both, again just a curiosity question.

Never weighed it but it stretched 67"

Damned rat traps I modified for civets won't work. Back to tinkering.

Bruce I think the answer may lie in two rat traps firing simultaneously...maybe position them  vertically too.  Was tinkering abit but you might come up with a better way.

I used the one in the picture to check on position of the head. It looks like they need to be able to get into the trap 3 1/2" for the strike to be effective.
I think I can do that but I have to rework the trap.

Thanks for the reply, I was curious how that worked, I'm searching for a 95 through 2000 u-haul truck to do some side jobs (I haul estates) when I get one, I would be interested in doing a route run, my rates would be reasonable....

Not every day is a big catch :chuckle:

Danger Ahead!

Caught a couple of these guys today along with a muskrat.
Several water sets out of commission. Too much water!

Tried to take some pictures of the water sets but all I get is glare off the water. Any suggestions?
