Almost time for the margaret
« on: September 12, 2008, 08:54:31 AM »
Its been painful hearing stories and looking at pictures of dead elk. The margaret does not open till the 15th thru the 30th. I have been scouting several times and have never been so ready for a hunting trip. I have some good friends who are going to help and have met a few people from this site who I will share the hunt with. Thanks for the info, I will post some picks on the flip side.

Good luck!  I did not draw the Margaret tag, so I will live vicariously through you!

Good luck jadeball1.

As an FYI I hunted in that general area earlier this week and given the lack of rutting activity I think you are going to benefit from having a season that starts later in the month. I will be returning for the last 4 days of the regular season with fingers crossed that the animals are more active.

Well, back after 6 days of hunting. Warm conditions made it tough the first few days. Glassed alot of bulls the first few days, only going after a dandy 5x5 on day one.(close but no shot.) Bulls started buggling more on thursday but were all down low in the canyons in the thick stuff. Went in after them on friday and got 12 yards and a half step away from a nice bull. followed 2 nice bulls sceaming into the bottom and decided to back off and look for them in the morning. Saturday walked 12 miles in the fog with little action. Access made things difficult without alot of walking. Heard of only 3 guys with tags connect so far, but I think people are holding out for a nice animal. We still have 8 more days to get it done. Im going back down friday thru tuesday to try again. Pray for rain so weyco will open the frickn gates, alot of land isnt getting hunted.
