Muzzy deer season success
« on: December 26, 2012, 11:52:53 AM »
Was able to go on a five day trip this year for mule deer and had some great success connecting with my first mulie buck and a second doe tag that as filled to. Opening day I passed on 4 opportunities at does around the 80 yard mark and waited for a really close shot which was presented around noon opening day at 20 yards. A heart and double lung shot and she stumbled about 15yards and was done in seconds. The last morning I got onto a four and five point whitetail and almost had a shot at those but they out smarted me. A little bit later I saw a group of 7 mulies but no legal bucks so I sat and watched them for about 30 minutes and while my brother was turkey hunting he kick up a dozen deer right to me about 112 yards away to my right but no legal bucks. All of a sudden a nice buck steps out at 136 yards to my left. I did not want to shoot that far and he closed the distance to 116 and was going to start working his way away so with close to 20 deer surrounding me it was now or never. I was confident I could make the shot so I squeezed one off. He went about five yards and fell over. Again a heart and double lung shot. Awesome hunt and this was one of my best seasons ever with my biggest buck. He wasn't an old buck but he was a great buck for me. Both deer were complete pass throughs with the 348 grain all lead power belts. I love the accuracy and performance these bullets have done for me. Saw a lot of deer on this trip as well as turkeys and a coyote. Overall just a fun easy going hunt.

Great. Job!
If we were supposed to be vegetarian God would have made broccoli more fun to shoot!
"HOYT" why would you even consider shooting something else?

Thanks guys hopefully can keep it up in the future.
I need to learn some new public ground to hunt though because not sure if this private land access will be available every year. My hunting partner is kind of upset, said I'm wiping the unit clean. :chuckle:
He was happy for me though.
Can't thank any of them enough for getting me out there this year to get my first mulie buck, as well as the doe and turkeys.
