where to hunt

i was wondering if anyone could tell me where some good public land is or know anybody that might be willing to let me hunt on there property preferably around newport or colville area.

If you are intending to hunt turkey are you willing to pay an access fee and remember to hunt private property you must have a permission slip

Grab a Colville NF map at NW map and travel here in town.  Anything up around that area has birds pretty much.

Drive north and start knocking on doors. Or drive to the Colville NF and start scouting. Either way will get you into Turkeys.

I gathered maps and just started scouting around the area.  I did A LOT of driving.  My kids and I spent days and days and days driving, and looking, and listening.  Spending all the time with my kids was the fun part.  After a couple years of doing that we finally got our first bird together.  Depending on what time of year you are hunting the birds will be in different places.  We could have learned more quickly with a guide.

Got my first limbhanger on the wildlife refuge east of Colville and since have harvested them all over the area including public land.  As stated the DNR has good maps that shows you whats public and the rest in private.  The people are all mostly friendly, but suggest getting away from the main roads.   As I tell everyone that asks, even a blind man can find turkeys from Deer Park north to the Canadian border ... so pick any back road and start looking and asking.

Check out horseshoe lake... Lots of birds on public.... Or knock on doors... Turkeys are by far the easiest animal to get permission for, most think they are a pain...

Like PO said...I was brand new to hunting and just drove NF land and me and my partner got turkeys within a few hours. They are everywhere North of you. Drive. Get out and walk for awhile. Call. Walk. Call. Shoot.
