10 day's in the mountain's.
« on: September 13, 2008, 01:47:05 AM »
So after a dismal week of chasing Elk in the mountains I spent my free time getting to learn my new D3 by cruising around 80 miles a day thru the mountains on my KLR looking for some interesting things to shoot.

Here are a few I really like and was quite pleased with the results.
My wife is tired of me showing her my images, so I thought I would share them in some photo forums for feedback, So let me know what you think.

One thing for sure, the D3 is all they say it is, and more.

And no, None of these are HDR. ;)
C&C Welcome.

Inside the warmer shack at the top of Little Bald Mt.

I thought this was amazing, to see the Milkyway this bright.

I knew that one morning I wanted to drive 19 miles west to the top of Chinook Pass to shoot sunrise on Mt. Rainier, but there where lingering clouds everyday till wed. night. So I got up at 4:30 am Thursday morning and hit it just right.
Beside the perfect sky's and weather, while there I did call a Bull Elk in from the bowl behind me. I tried to keep him around till I had enough light so I could get in the trees and shoot him with the 400, but another Photographer showed up and spooked him off. still got to see him, but at around 600 yds and circling us.

I started shooting at around 5:41 am.

Before the light.

Here comes the sun.

Full sun on the mountain.

This is from above Lake Tipso.

All the mountain pic's where shot with the D3 and a 24mm 2.8 and 50mm 1.8
Processed with CS3.

Thanks for looking.

The 12x18 prints I just picked up are amazing, and yes, I wish people would buy them  ;)
Guess I have to look for an outlet for them other then the site.

Great clarity in some of those Elk. The only constructive comment I can make is your shooting left a bit. The main subjects arnt centered making the pics look a bit awkward. Some look good like that. (mountains and such maybe especially the lake shot), but the pics with the single object might be centered more.

But man that must be some lens.
I do what the voices in my tackle box tell me to.

Those that are not centered are not to be centered. Rule of thirds.
Other then the skeleton, what's not centered?

Great images.  Dang Nikons make everything look nice and pastel just like a fairy tale.  Some people say that's the noise processing.  I tend to like it.

Thanks for all the comments guy's!
Since I got this new body I have shot over 7000 pics!
allot of them shooting the same images over and over learning what this baby will do.
I am still amazed at what it can do, such as practicly shooting in the dark, in light levels
I would have never thought possible from a camera, and with no noise.

Hope to get out and shoot more before the weather get's to bad.
