RIP Stormin Norman
« on: December 27, 2012, 05:05:29 PM »
Just heard the news that General Norman Schwarzkopf, Jr. has passed away at the age of 78. He was one one the last Generals that said what he meant and didnt care who liked or disliked it. I had the honor of meeting him a couple of times while I was on active duty. Few people know his father was the lead investigator for the kidnapping of Charles Lindbergh's baby.

I read his auto-biography.  Good read and would recommend it to others.  RIP

When I was sitting in KSA during Desert Shield/Storm, we were on open ended orders.  We got to Saudi on the 25th of Aug, so we were some of the first boots on the ground.  So for a month or so we were kind of wondering when our rotation date would be.  Any word on rotation date?  Nope.  Then all the sudden we heard about this Marine General who was in charge saying there would be no rotation, the word was duration.  WTF!!  Who the heck is this guy!  General Schwarzkopf!  We all grew to love him, what a leader, what a great man.  RIP General.

Uh, he wasn't a Marine.  He was an army general... :dunno:

“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.”
