Private field being sold last trip success
« on: December 27, 2012, 09:03:32 PM »
My one and only farm hunting access is being sold off with new owners giving no permission to duck hunters. My last trip to the property was today with my best trip to the property being my last. Set up in layout blinds today seeing no birds during the first hour or so of legal light so my brother looked further down the property only to see about two dozen mallards and two dozen teal. The stalk was on. After a long stalk crawling across the whole property we were within range of about half the flock. The other half went across to far to shoot. We made the decision to shoot at the flock right in front of us and ended up with 10 ducks from one flock. Six for me four for my brother. We were able to empty the guns and reload and empty again. Not a bad amount of birds for shooting at one group. We're called it a day even though a few birds wanted to worked back to the area. Was a successful trip. Finally. Now it's time to find new areas to hunt, because I love to hunt farmlands.

Bummer!  I have lost many properties over the years to the same or zoning changes.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

Ya we really don't have hardly any good areas to go to anymore because my saltwater hotspot got turned into a natural preserve area no entry also. This year has been tougher than ever. Very limited especially since I don't have a gas motor for my boat.

I can say one thing though. The few birds I have got into this year re all dying. Most trips  nearly every bird I shoot at is dying. Love the stoeger 3500 with the kick full choke.

Ya I have a few spots I want to try to get permission to but around my area people are pretty tight about letting someone have permission to hunt there land. I just thank the land owner a bunch for letting me have permission while he could. He was a really cool guy.

Sorry to hear when you, or anyone loses a hunting spot.  Happened to my brother and I on a great duck spot in the basin 25 years ago.  The place was owned by family that did not need the money and the explanation we got was "Sorry I sold your duck hunting spot but they offered me a price I couldn't pass up."  I know how you feel.  At least you got in one more good shoot.
