Never heard of it. My experience is if its seems too good to be true... It probably is. $5 won't buy much of a fishing rod. But then again there are guys who swear by ugly sticks...

Do they have them at the Montesano or Elma stores?  I'm headed down that way today and wouldn't mind checking them out for back up or loaner rods for kids.

If it does break or is a bad rod.....oh well....at least it won't hurt like it would if you dropped a couple.hundred on a loomis....I don't own a single rod over $70 (and I own a lot of rods) and I catch just as many fish as the guys fishin the high end gear.....rods aren't what catch fish.....

cheap is cheap....but sometimes cheap works.....buy one or two and let us know how they are.... :twocents:

I'm the same way.  I have one high $$ Loomis rod that my wife had built by Gary Loomis himself but to be honest, my cheap Okuma rods have been every bit as good, plus I don't worry so much about breaking or losing them.  Even when I was a tournament bass fisherman I only had one custom rod that I had specially built but everything else was economical Shimano or Ugly Stick rods.  I would rather spend the money on other gear then have a bunch tied up into a couple of rods.  I'll give a cheap rod that looks like it is well built a shot, if it works great,if not I'm not out a ton of $$.

:yeah:

My money for rods goes into Ugly Stik's and the money I save not buying $$$$$ rods goes into other fishing gear.  I have used $$$$$ rods and will agree, the right one does help you feel more fish and is better than an Ugly Stik but, if my Ugly Stik breaks, I'm out $30 and, the way I see it, the 5 more fish per year I might be able to land with a $$$$$ rod over my Ugly Stik is not even close to making it worth it to me.

Hell, I even make most of my fishing lures as well.  I'm on the edge of opening my lure my lure (plastic worms/plastic salmon eggs, spinners, yarnies etc) manufacturing business again.  I would rather drop the $$ on fuel and be able to go fishing more often then on over priced gear.

Don't be so quick to dog Ugly Sticks, great Down Rigger rod, - if it breaks get another one.....  Why would anyone ever put a $200-300 rod on a down rigger set up?   :dunno:   Ugly Stick lites are great for that... I caught literally 1000's of Salmon in AK and outfished 100's with high end stuff..  Granted I got numerous higher end stuff for certain type fishing yes like drift, jigging or running plugs, but always have a couple Ugly Sticks around for boat rods and general purpose...  And swear by Ugly Stick Tiger Rods for Sturgeon, in the hard to find - light action..  Excellent tip for detecting those winter light bitting Sturgeon, but enough balls to throw up to 32 ounces and fight an Oversized if needed....  Not the broom handle ones....
