Any good elk spots..?
« on: December 28, 2012, 07:34:25 PM »
Hello Folks,

This is my first post... basically I'm wondering if you could let me know where there are some good elk spots? I'm looking for a spot that has easy access and almost no pressure. I figure if I can hike in about a 1/4 mile that should be good enough to get into a secluded area and get my P&Y bull...   :dunno: I also was wondering if anyone had a knife I could borrow because I don't have one and I will need to clean the animal.

OK, seriously, I'm an avid archery elk hunter and i DON'T want your spots; I always wanted to do a first post like that  :chuckle: By the way, the part about needing a knife was a REAL first post from a guy in another forum (I should mention that I'm DrakeDrayage on the DuckHuntChat forum). Just introducing myself here, hello my name is Ben. Most of my friends are either too old, too lazy, or have traded in their bows for rifles - and I'm getting a little bored scouting/hunting solo. Anyhow, for the past 15 years I've been a Winston whore - and although I've had success there, I'm parting ways with that GMU in search of greener pastures (pun intended). I'm looking to scout some coastal units this summer and maybe find a spot that isn't so susceptible to the typical September fire closures that are ruining my life.

Anyhow, if anyone wants to scout or go shoot some 3D's drop me a line. Otherwise, I'll try to login/contribute regularly to stay in tune with what's going on.

Good luck in 2013 fella's.

Yes Winston lost its magic for me too; I left 4 years ago.  The cow tags in there ruined that unit.  A buddy turned me onto a different unit but I'm sworn to secrecy; sorry.  Good luck

Oh, I guess you couldn't read the humor in my post, sorry.  But ya, welcome to the board.  I live and hunt in gmu 578.  We do have Elk, most of them during hunting season know to not leave the refuge, but there are a few taken every year.  Like has been said, head east.

Yes, I got it... and I understand the hazing practices .

Thanks for the advice, but I'm going as far West as I can! I'm done hunting raghorns (for a while), and not interested in Eastern spikes. It's not that there's anything wrong with it - a cow with a bow is a trophy IMO. I just want to target some bigger bulls before I start focusing on calling for my son and daughter in the next few years.
