Coyote question
« on: December 30, 2012, 05:31:55 PM »
Okay so I am over here in central oregon and there are coyotes that we can hear all around at night, what is the best way to get them to come out in the morning to blast a couple? We have tried the electronic calls and even thought of sacrificing a live chicken  :dunno: but nothing yet. Any tricks?

Have you tried prairie dog calls on your electronic caller? Saw that on a recent episode of Fred Eichler's Predator Nation.  He had been using pup in distress and rabbit in distress with no success, but switched to prairie dog and had coyotes come in. I would think that might work well in Central Oregon.

Good luck!

There are no tricks, you have to learn to out think a coyote, where he hunts, learn to use wind and terrain to your advantage.  That's why it can take many stands to finally call in a coyote.  If you think deer are smart a coyote is a genious.  But it is so satisfying once you get it figured out.  Books by Spommer and Blair are good reads.  Tony Tebbe of Predator University has a great instuctional DVD "So You Want To Be A Predator Caller".
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

lately i have had success with howls and pup distress. every coyote is different and wont respond the same as others. i had two coyotes come at a dead run last week to lightning jack call. and one today that was a couple hundred yards away that couldn't care less about a distress call until i howled at it.
In this country we have no place for hyphenated Americans.

its simple, just pick a spot upwind of where you think they might come from, scream on a hand call, manipulating the sound with your fingers and cupping, just go crazy with it..i dont use a rabbit call, i use a rabbitt, is getting his arrs kicked, and is fighting for its life call, lol......i really go crazy with it, and blow LOUD.  camo, face and hands helps. good luck.

Well, I guess they DO call it a "smart phone" for nothing!  :chuckle:  :chuckle:
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

with all that snow, dont worry about wearing white, it will only silhouette you against trees, just pick a spot and try and look like a stump or chunk of wood.
