All wheel drive cars with good MPG
« on: December 30, 2012, 06:04:20 PM »
We are looking at trading in the old lady's acura and my tahoe to get a nice truck and a commuter car. We would like to get an all wheel drive car for the winter time on the east side but also would like to get something that gets good mileage. Any suggestions? We would also like to find something with the space to tote around our dogs...

Don't own one but sounds like a Subaru.

Been looking at subaru's too and looking at their mpg and they are only rated to get around 20-24 combined. That isn't bad but was hoping I could find a little better.

Subaru WRX or Audis or BMW are the only things I can think of.  Porsche makes some AWD, but the price compared to the other 3 seems to negate any MPG type argument.  I can't think of any other manufacturers...they've missed the ball from what I can tell.

Also been looking at Audi's but hate trying to find a mechanic for them

Hell I have been in white outs pushing snow with my civic on I5 no problem, just have good tires, and drive smart.

Toyota has some AWD vehicles. We owned a 08 Toyota Highlander with AWD. Loved it and it went everywhere, but we had to give it up for the growing family. We got 20 to 22 mpg depending on the driving. I used it to tow a u-haul trailer (double axle) to AZ and we got 16 to 17 mpg. We now have an '11 Sienna which I love to. It is only front wheel drive, but I have had no issues in the snow (snoqualmie, blues, siskiyous, etc). The Sienna does come in AWD too.
