1911 Gunsmith Everett?
« on: December 27, 2012, 11:24:22 AM »
I am looking to get some work done on a couple of 1911's and am looking for a proven gunsmith on these. I have found a few but I want some actual feedback on good quality work. Does anyone have recomendations for the North Sound area? This is for a Kimber and a Springfield. Mostly sight work but maybe trigger also. Need to be able to do machine work too.

Also any recomendations on gunsmithing books for the 1911?

Thanks Tony

Talk to John at JPL Precision in Redmond.  He makes competition race pistols but I am sure he could do the work you are looking for.  I talked to him in length on the phone as I was looking to have him make me a custom pistol.  I went another direction but he knows his stuff.

I know of him and he is 4 miles from my house. Unfortunately Google does not give me actual feedback on the quality of workmanship.

A lot more members on here can help more than I do on Grumpies rep....I've never heard anything bad but have only used him to tap some mounts for a sling on a rifle.

If you can make it down to Kent, Peter Dunn is at Champion Arms.  One of the best 1911 gun smiths out there.  I don't at all care of the shop, or management there (another story for another time)... But Peter is amazing and can do anything you want and do it perfectly.  Peter was the lead designer/engineer for Detonics when they were here in Seattle and then he also was the lead designer when they moved down to Atlanta, so he knows the 1911 platform probably better than John Browning did.  He does a trigger job that is out of this world, and he does it at a reasonable price.

What are you looking to have done?    That might determine who people send you to.  Sight work should be handled by just about any competent smith. Checkering or stippling  is not 1911 dependent. If you're looking for a 3 1/2 pound Bullseye trigger, I'd suggest a smith that specializes in reliable/safe trigger modifications that would pass a Nationals Bullseye Match.  If you're looking for accurizing, I'd go to a Bullseye smith that can make your 1911 print 1 1/2" at 50yds.  It'll cost ya though!

Hahaha, I'd be lucky if I can hit the target at 50 yards with open sights on a pistol. Really just want a nicer trigger feel and night sights put in a Kimber. My other has the A1 sights so I would need machine work done to put in dovetails.
