Ring Height - Help Needed
« on: January 02, 2013, 11:11:16 AM »
Hoping someone has some advice on scope mount size for my latest project...

I've got a Wby vanguard S2 in .257 wby mag, and am going to mount my Leupold Vx-III 4.5-14 x40 using either Talley lightweight one peice or DNZ mounts.  Leaning towards Talley's due to price and what seems to be a pretty big fan base on shooting forums.

Anyone have a similar set up using Talley or DNZ low's?  Anyone use (or has found) extra-lows?

Maybe there is a shop in king/snoho/or skagit county that sells DNZ or Talley?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

-Dane

I have several DNZ mounts.  I would assume you would use the low one with the 40mm, but a quick call to DNZ would ensure that you get the right one.  Call them, they are great to work with.

I have a DNZ low mount and I absolutely love it. Best mount I've ever used.

Mount height is strictly a personal preference so I'm not sure how much help I can be. I personally preffer very low mounted scopes (I hate building up the cheek weld to compensate) and I was very pleased with how low the DNZ low mount sat on my rifle. If your looking to go with the extra low I would definitely contact them first to see what the clearance would be.

I have a Vanguard in 30/06 with a Burris 3-9x40 and Talley lightweight, medium rings. It used to be that the mediums were the lowest they made, so that's what I got. But the fit is perfect. I wouldn't use the low Talleys with a 40mm objective.
