Depends on what you need to your "Go-To Gun" to go do..
If its Civil War II or WWIII, Norinco AK and one of my Glocks 19, 20sf, or 21sf..
Hunting brush? - Marlin .30-30
Hunting farther? Browning X-bolt .30-06
Hunting wabbits? Marlin 981t
Shooting clays? Winchester 1300
Plinking? Ruger 10/22
Getting fooled by coyotes? Olympic Arms k16 stainless
Bedside defense? Glock 21 with light
Ammo supply is low? Martin Threshold bow  :chuckle:

If I'm hunting then theres a rifle in my safe to cover about everything. If I'm just going to be out in the woods screwing off, then I carry a marlin bolt action 22 mag. About the only time I take a pistol over a rifle is summer mountain bike rides and even most of time I prefer a rifle when I'm on my bike.

A 24" Marlin Cowboy in .44 with a Williams receiver sight.

From mice to moose.
'I guess if I could have had but one rifle during all the years I hunted, it would have been the .44 (Winchester) .....it was no long range cartridge.....but for just plain every day use to put meat in the pot, it was a difficult cartridge to beat.'

My favorite is my Henry lever action .22.  Very accurate and a kick in the pants to shoot.

Marlin 336 30-30 long ago earned the name 'Mr. Lucky'.
Ruger77 in an un famous wildcat chambering has been the one I've carried the most in recent years.
But without one of those, SS Ruger Redhawk 44mag is always with me.

Are we talking pistol or rifle?

For me:

Pistol:  45 ACP Kimber loaded with 230gr.

Rifle:  .338 Sako Finnbear Pre-Garcia model loaded with 210 Nosler Partitions.

I can't narrow it down any farther.
It is what you meant it to be...
