Part of it may be that they are not the apex predator up there.  I know when I hunt sedro wooley area I hunt them like I would a Bob cat.  longer on stands and really work em in. 
There's a place for all God's creatures...... Right next to the mashed potatoes.

I went out this weekend and had no luck with just distress sounds. But when I did a few series of distress and ended it with a pup distress we had one come in. My buddy got him at 200 yards.

Didn't think you could use dogs anymore. Don't quote me, but take a look, I haven't hunted WA dogs for a a couple years but I swear I remember seeing something about this. This time of year you gotta start mixing it up, all I'll say is your distress calls aren't going to be as honey as they were earlier, unless you get a good storm.
