I have been doing some reseach on my 300 rum and a lot of people talk about burning up there barrels I was just wonder how many of u guys acually have

I have shot out barrels/burned them up.

It is more about a couple of facts. Every barrel has a shot count life. When people talk about barrels burners they are often talking about guns that are shooting very high velocity loads. These hotter loads tend to eat up the barrel life faster then a standard load would.

Back in AR, I have one of the first m700 7mm rem mags, with the colored stainless barrel. It has had THOUSANDS of rounds down it. First shot is on the money, second shot is off, and everything after that is all over the place. It is shot out.

Thanks for the info I've never thought about it before because I always shot factory ammo now that I'm reloading I'll have to watch them hot loads

There is some factory loads that are hot as heck. Take the 22-250 and 204 some push or go a hair over the 4k mark. Now that is a barrel eater

I cannot afford to burn out the barrel on my .300ultra...  Ammo too spendy.

Some caliber's do much more damage than others. There are some good articles on the bench rest forums for barrel life and most of the time it's the throat that goes bad.

Yup ruint a 7mmMag, shot it too hot too often, trying to get it to perform even close to factory published specs. it never did. Killed a lot of deer tho.

I just got a model 700, 270 WSM with a stainless fluted barrel.  How do you think this gun should do with heavy shooting (If I can ever afford a lot of ammo)?

The only barrel I shot out was a 22-250, I shot it hot, often. It still lasted 15years before the groups realy opened up bad, and the throat was washed out to the point a bullet wouldnt touch the case mouth and the lands at the same time. The throat area of the chamber looked like a dried up mud puddel, cracks and craters, and no rifleing for the first 1 1/2" after the throat. I've got a 7mm Rem Mag thats going to be needing a new barrel in the next couple of years. the new barrel will have a long eough shank to cut and set it back at least once.
