less lethal 12 gauge ammo
« on: January 03, 2013, 01:25:06 PM »
so i have been having problems with people trying to beak into my car and truck and was thinking about getting some rubber buckshot or beanbag rounds for my 12 gauge to keep the people of of my stuff.  Has anyone ever used less lethal rounds if so how well do they work?

The bean bags hurt like a you know what.  Way worse than a paintball.  I remember they left a red mark, but no bruise.  They don't work very well unless you are close.  They are rolled up in the shell, and when fired they unravel and expand, slowing quickly.

Not the newer stuff.  You could zap people at 20-30 yards plus with those and they are still smoking.  The manufacturer should have a minimum distance you need to be, make sure you follow it or you could end up killing someone.

At close range they can still be lethal

Discuss this with an attorney and let us know what he says. If you think $300 for an hour of talk time is expensive now... wait until you're on the other side of the event...

If it's that bad get a paintball gun and up the fps a lot. It will hurt without putting you in jail for brandishing a firearm or worse. Less lethal has no place in civilian use of firearms. The only time you should fire is if deadly force would be legal, in which case you should be using fully lethal ammunition.

Bear spray burns like no tomorrow.  It's also oil based, so it is harder to get off.  If you got someone with a full stream of that they would feel the aftershock for several days.

If someone was stealing your stuff and you sprayed them, I don't think there would be any ramifications.  Pepper spray is not considered lethal force, and would not likely inflict any serious bodily injury.

Just make sure to get some over spray on whatever he's trying to steal. Proves it took place on/with your property.
