I don't shed hunt but, I think the consensus around here is it's best to wait until mid spring or later to let the animals rest and use their energy on getting through the winter instead of avoiding you.

I'm going to start looking around here towards the latter part of February, and through April. But this will be for blacktail deer and snow won't be a concern.

The best time is before antlerking, shedstud, shedcrazy, and a few others hit the hills and find them all.  :chuckle:

Saw over 20 bucks and they're all still packing racks. If you shed hunt now.then go up in the snow. Seems like those bucks always drop first.

I start finding whitetail sheds now, but only because I have a hay pile on my own property. Other wise I have to wait until the snow clears out in April to look beyond that, but that's up 3500ft. I would suspect a guy can start down lower where the snow may not be an issue and I'm only talking about whitetail. I would like to know if anyone actually hikes in the snow (not around a feeding station) and is successful in finding sheds? Hope this question isn't considered thread jacking.  :sry:
