Cam/crank sensors kicking my butt
« on: January 05, 2013, 02:06:39 PM »
A few months back I posted about some issues with my Dakota, yesterday I got it back from the shop after having the cam and crank sensor replaced for the second time in 3 months, asked my mechanic if there are other issues causing it to eat sensors and he said no, just electrical parts that sometimes go bad :bash:. Well, now my wifes Sedona has a check engine light on and its running like crap, limped it a half mile to O'Reilly's and hooked it up to their code reader, showed 2 codes, 1 was a tranny range sensor and the other was a cam position sensor :bash:. Can't believe my luck, never had any issues with cam/crank sensors and now 3 in 3 months. Waiting to hear back from Kia to find out if its covered under warranty, with my luck lately, doubtful.

My only advice is to replace faulty sensors with OEM parts.  There is a real difference in OEM and aftermarket quality on powertrain management stuff.  It could also be that you had a wiring issue that the mechanic didn't figure out the first time....he may have just thrown sensors at it, and had to actually fix it the next go around.
