Kids hunt this weekend
« on: September 16, 2008, 07:58:46 PM »
This is one for the books.Full choke with #2 in 20 ga.
What me wait tell the last minute, you silly guys
Couldn't find #4 in town. Not a cheap Remington choke to be found. I need 2 that's not a full choke but I've spent enough for the time being. From camp to Mose Lake or Ephrata is about the same 20 miles so I might run over to one of them and see if I can find 4s or an open choke. I'm setting out to help them build a blind where I can have a line in the water as I'm seating between them with only one having shells in their gun at a time untill I think its safe for both of them having shells. After this weekend I don't see both them going with me at a time.
Neither one has shot a duck load yet. They've shot a few dove loads.

Tank, I am all geared up to put my son in the swamp this Saturday morning for the duck youth opener. Steel shot all lined up, new waders, camo, even some new dekes for me.... We stopped to check our launch site this last Saturday. All was a go! This is his first year hunting.

Then, on Monday, (yesterday), he is screwing around at school and takes a hard fall on the playground and fractures his wrist.

  >:(  SEASON CANCELLED   >:(

Not sure yet if he will also miss deer season.

Gobble tell me about it, I'm on my 2nd go around.
That's a bitch Ice man well he be able to wear the waders next year. Were did you find waders for kids? The boy would probably fit the woman sizes but the girl no way.
Ice I think I'm looking forward to this weekend more then the kids are.I'm probably in for a let down.
These kids have all the right stuff to travel, games, music,DVD player and they still fight. Like my daughter told me in an argument, It's not my fault you spoiled me.

Hey, he's just proving that he's all boy and there is nothing wrong with that.

They do make waterproof casts for kids, but it has to go on that way. I don't think they can do it after it's already on.

Good luck, I hope sure hope he can make the deer season.  From what I saw when I lived in Idaho if he can tuff it out for and hour or two he should at least get a shot at a whitetial doe.  I saw over ten in the space of 20 minutes and it was early afternoon in June or July

Good luck and Best wishes for a speedy recovery

Thanks guys.

We missed this weekend youth opener for waterfowl. I am making sure he takes good care of it, to save the deer hunt in three weeks. I will take him waterfowling later in the year.

I did remind him every hour or two all weekend.... "Hey, wouldn't you rather be sitting in front of some decoys calling ducks in?"  :IBCOOL:   I decided to make this a "learning opoportunity" to take better care of yourself, to stay away from the kids that end up causing trouble... (not the first time with this particular kid/friend...)  I think he has learned a pretty good lesson here.

Iceman it's a long duck season and he'll have a lot of time to go but deer I don't know

You ain't a pooping that stuffs hot.
Oh I got a chance to get the little darlings up around 4 then waited until just about shooting hours to head to our spot. I didn't want to go in the first time with flashlights.(to many things get lost)
A nice flock came in and landed right where they were suppose to, the plan had come together. The first part hit the water and the rest was just about to so I stand up and says takem.
Well nothing happened, the ducks few away and that was that.
I was more then a little upset I had been real sick and wasn't feeling good then but I said they could go so I took them. I ask WTF was going on and never did get a good answer. I think they got duck fever (simalar to buck fever) their were just too many and they didn't know where to start. The guns stock are to long to.The boy got a widgen and the girl knocked one down but I couldn't find it.Dog didn't get one duck, each that were shot I had to use the boat.
The weather wasn't cold just a small wind and enough ducks that limits would have been possible, shot less then a box of shells.
They aren't invited on my opening weekend I don't see them coming with me together for a while and that should help a lot.
I need a day to rest up some, maybe tomorrow will be nap day.

"Take em!"...and nothing.....  :chuckle:  Now that's funny! That is sort of what I was expecting. Let em land, then get the shooter ready, and then spook the ducks up...Sounds like fun though....even with just a single bird to take home. I have had days that were worse..... A widgeon is a tropy to a kid...

We will find out today if my son can make the deer hunt.... keeping my fingers crossed.

Ice good luck with your son today

Yea, I'm just starting to grin about it. I'll never know for sure what they were thinking. Kind of like yelling charge and turn around and all you see is butts going the other way. It's just I sent a lot of money (to me) took them thru classes, worked hard even though I was sick. I thought I had everything planned and my plan worked they couldn't help knocking a couple down.I didn't have a plan B if plan A didn't work.Like having quail flush and and they couldn't pick one to shoot at so they didn't shoot at any.
Now the way I looked in disbelieve would have made a good picture. It was raining mallards :'(
