Both are very good systems, but since you asked I prefer Tri-tronics.  Primarily because they are made in the USA, and they have good customer service.

The Sport Basic G3 EXP is expandable to 3 dogs, has a buzz, momentary, and continuous button, and a range of 1/2 mile.  The Sport Upland G3 EXP also includes the beeper-locator that is controlled remotely by the transmitter. A little side note on the half mile range...that's line of sight.  Heavy brush, or hilly terrain will shorten the range.  With both units the transmitter is water resistant, and uses replaceable alkaline batteries.  The receiver is waterproof, and rechargeable.

I have a Pro model.  The receivers are the same, but the transmitter has a longer range, more stimulation levels, and is rechargeable.  It is however, somewhat bulky.  :twocents:

I work at the Sportsman's Warehouse in Puyallup.  We do not carry the Pro models, but we do have a good selection of the Tri-tronics, and Dogtra.  Come on in, you can check out what's available, and we can lie to each other about how good we are for a while  :chuckle:  Ask for Larry.  :IBCOOL:

ford or chevy?

I prefer tritronics. three years, tons of hours, and so far zero trouble.

unless you have a big running dog the sport combo is all you really need. for pointers I would get at least the field 90 exp since it has a one mile range.

gun dog supply has a pretty good outline of both brands and what each model has to offer over the other. Gun dog supply is an outstanding company to deal with, they will do what ever it takes to make the customer happy, and their prices are pretty good too.

well they would be for my pointing lab and weimaraner for upland hunting , do you think that the sport combo would be ok or should i go with the field 90 exp because of the range , my dogs dont tend to take off to far ?? also the combo is less expensive to the field 90  , if i could save a few bucks id prefer that .

I use the two dog Dogtra 3502 Super X. They have been dunked, bashed, scratched, worked in both hot and freezing conditions, etc more than I care to think of and the only thing that has gone wrong with them is I had to change the batteries last year.

Next time I'll probably buy TriTronics however. For one thing I could control my beeper with one and for another, Garmin bought TriTronics in 2011 I think and they now have a GPS collar/e-collar called the Alpha that is catching my eye.

Run from Sportdog unless you like sending the collar in for maintenance a lot.

If you're looking for a good deal and don't mind a refurbished collar check out collarclinic.com.

I agree, Ford vs Chevy.  I have a TT Pro200, love it.  My dad has a TT that's got to be going on close to 20 yrs (think old school Lardy videos) that he uses for his yard work, and prefers the TT Sport Combo for hunting with its smaller transmitter.

Both are top of the line. I prefer TT because of the features. They hold a charge forever. The one feature that Dogtra has is a vibrate mode which is good for ultra sensitive dogs. TT customer service is second to none. I went to MT for two weeks training for field trials and had the transmitter fail due to a sudden impact on a rock. I sent the Collar overnight and had a newone two days later. I prefer the PRO 500 but all of them have different beneficial features read up on all of them and see which fits your needs.

the nice thing about Tritronics, is that all of the transmitters available ( besides the jr) are compatible with the G3 exp collar. so if you find the sport basic doesn't suit your needs you can upgrade to a different transmitter without buying a whole new set up. and you can usually sell your old transmitter pretty quick to recoup some of the money for the new one.

I have been with sportdog for 4 years now, and have not had any issues. 2 years ago, I had the retaining ring for the on off button come off while hunting. I called c/s and had a new collar in the mail that day, and paid only shipping. Sent the other collar back in the enclosed pp envelope.  Customer service is #1 in my book, and no problems with their products.

If u are interested in the sport basic then the garmin delta sport might be what u would want. Its not out till march but the delta series will eventually take place of the sport series.. TT/Garmin products are definetly my choice. We offer sportdog as well but TT are for sure they way to go. :twocents:
