Anyone ever smoked and/or baked a rack of elk ribs like you would do with pork ribs? Just wondering how they turned out and whether you have some tips to share.

Tagging this one. I have a friend that keeps talking about doing his deer ribs... Sounds gross to me I told him I want to be there when he eats them.

Didnt care for them that much. Pork ribs and beef ribs are alot better in my opinion. Now, the boneless roasts and hamburger from elk are great...

When I was younger and not yet into smoking on my own, we had some deer ribs smoked by a butcher friend of my dads. They were terrible. There were lines of fat in there that was just absolutely gross. The dogs loved them though.

He who says that elk ribs that are done properly aren't delicious are nuckin futs! Cut every other rib bone out, and cook them the same way you would pork/beef to your liking.

boil them before you BBQ them. or hit em with bbq sauce and put them in at 300dg. in the oven after boiling. they will be tender and tasty!

Ive done both deer and elk, both terrible! When you were done eating you had a waxy coat of fat inside your whole mouth that was almost impossible to get off.

The best Elk ribs i've ever had done were on an Green Egg cooked at 180 deg for 6hours! They were AWESOME! the deer ribs i've had were good but the problem was the fat. You can boil most of the fat off deer ribs but the stuff still sticks to the roof of your mouth if they cool off too much. Cook low and slow and its awesome...
