Hunting Buddies
« on: January 10, 2013, 01:53:26 PM »
I will start off by saying that I am thankful to be able to just have one that does go. I have been trying to learn and explore more areas, techniques, etc. I just got off the phone with him, we are hunting the salt and the tides are not the best for the morning we are hunting. Going out all morning. So I say, lets go check out some other areas near there that I have found, or am interested in. "Nah, we should be fine, we know where we are going, and we've seen birds there, so I know they are there." He has the boat, so I am at a disadvantage. He is also family. I am just venting about people who are stick in the mud's, that are not willing to put in time or effort to be able to find those little honey holes, or private land, etc.... I have split days off and try to use what little time I have to make the most of it. Been a not so good year for me, and its coming to an end, and the conditions for the next hunt aren't the best.  :bash:

Thank you for letting me vent.

I hear you. I have a buddy that can be stubborn as well.  One weekend years ago I was getting some geese and the set up had to be a particular way to get shooting in.  That Saturday he bullied his way to get his set up with the sun in our face  :dunno: ? We ended up getting a goose egg with geese flying 20 yards over my blind I hunted before.  Then Sunday we went to my previous blind and wammo, two limits before 9.  Next time I said after that weekend if we are not on the same page I will ditch him before shooting time.

Just don't be afraid to let another hunter go if they act like dead weight.  I even had to stop hunting with a family member because he would take all his friends out to my honey holes.  He then got real upset once the honey holes dried up from all the added pressure while I was getting birds at other places and not inviting him.  Told him I'm upset because he just wanted to look like an awesome hunter free guide to his friends from only my effort.  I was called selfish but told him just tiered because buddies taking buddies doesn't work.

I've got a couple of buddies who always say lets hunt, let's hunt, and after making good plans, ill text them that evening to make sure and always get stood up. Their excuses are normally either, I'm tired or they have to spend time with their girlfriends. I tell them, hey, girlfriends matter 9 months out of the year, come hunting season girlfriends are optional lol. So I get stuck with a lot of solo hunting.

ya...i've had a few of those too.   :dunno:  heck, i'd be out waiting for them so we can go hunting and call them on their house phone (oops, woke his wife....lol) only to find out "hey, not gonna make it....i overslept".  or "ya ya ya, i'll be out there at ..... time" and never show up.  so i know the feeling of getting stuck solo also...sucks.  not a big deal...but pretty much don't have to worry about that now.  PRIORITIES PEOPLE...lol.

Absolutely! 9 months out of the year I am home for my wife. This is my thing and I am very passionate about it. So I dont want to waste time! I hunt everyday that I am off, I am not out there JUST to sight see, I would like to harvest something too. Its just difficult finding anyone who has the passion that I do.

No shows... You should cut them loose and just quit calling them to hunt. find some one else to hunt with or just go by yourself.  :twocents:
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.
